  1. Well - it isn't so much about the YE beliefs or otherwise - more of,,, how (in your denomination) does Jesus, acting as savior from sins, come into play without Adam and Eve bringing original sin into the world.

I think I am understanding that perhaps some don't use the "original sin" idea - and believe it is the everyday sin that is the issue?

I don't qualify, bec I do believe Adam and Eve brought original sin into the world.:)

  2. Ok - First - this is a sincere question.

It just occurred to me a few days ago, and I've been debating asking - because I don't want to start a brawl on here.

Please, please, please - if this questions offends you in some way - understand that I honestly did not see a way it could be offensive (but I've said that before and been wrong - which is why I am saying this....) and am seriously interrested. Studying religion and its history is what I do and I am a history major.... so really - sincere. Keep in mind - I am asking for academic reasons and am not Christian so have no opinion either way, really.

So - this is for those of you who do not believe in a literal interpretation of Genesis:

If you do not beleive that Adam and Eve were actual, physical people, and that Adam and Eve brought sin into the world in the Garden of Eden, how is the concept of Original Sin explained in your denomination? Also - the need for Christ's salvation from sin?

I am not questioning your belief or sincerity or the validity of your faith, I've just never hear it explained.

    :grouphug:

I don't know if I can help or not. I believe that the 'days' in Genesis are eras of time, and that it is possible for the Earth to be as old as carbon dating shows. Some would say that is not a literal interpretation and others would. I do believe that Adam and Eve were the first 2 people. If you'd like me to elaborate I will.

  3. My computer says this on ustvnow.com:

    Thanks for visiting USTVNow Beta

We love TV! Our dream is to have all the TV in the world available instantly to everyone, wherever they are.

But for the time being, our service is only available for those of you that are traveling overseas or reside abroad and have no other way to watch TV from the US.

If you are traveling outside the continental U.S.A. our service is available to all Americans or those who would normally be able to watch US cable, satellite or broadcast TV. Below you are able to pre-register for the service and already schedule the programs you want to record*. As soon as you are abroad you will be able to watch the shows you recorded or watch live from home TV.

In the U.S.A we’re not able to offer our service to you until your local cable or satellite provider becomes an USTVNow TV Anywhere partner. We’re really sorry about this, but it takes time to get every TV and broadband provider on board. You can help by giving them a call and asking when USTVNow TV Anywhere will be available to you.

See note below if you are accessing this site from an overseas military base or embassy**

    Do you live overseas?

No, and my DH didn't get that on the website. Roku endorses the channel. i'm not sure why you are getting different info??? My guess is it is the bolded part. We also get ESPN3 online (Not roku), but we have friends that don't, because they get internet through a cable company that blocks that.

  4. I took Spanish in high school and college. I never got very far with it. I lived in Italy and spoke some Italian, but I lost it. I decided to go with a totally different language first. We're learning French. We're using Learnables, which has gone very well so far. DS1 is flying through it. He's almost done with the first computer cd-rom. Then he moves to listening to CDs with the book. I'm going to see how it goes from there. It may be more teacher intensive than I'm looking for. I don't know yet. If it is, despite my desires not to, I may try Rosetta Stone for Spanish in 2 years.

    Good luck.

  5. :iagree::iagree:

We don't see tradition as equal with scripture, but tradition is important. Scripture trumps tradition rather than the other way around. We're doing the Catechism for Young Children, here is the section on the Fourth Commandment:

We see the early church gathering on the first day of the week in Acts, therefore not based on tradition but the Word of God.

Thank you for pointing that out. I forgot about that verse. And as in the other thread, I was going by my experience of churches that outright insist they do nothing by tradition.

  6. We go to church on Sundays, but the Sabbath is Saturday.

It is an interesting fact to point out that the Protestants that claim not to follow any traditions and keep the Sabbath on Sunday are following a tradition set by the Catholic Church. The same is true for celebrating the Feast of the Nativity on December 25th.

  7. So I've been looking at this all day, and I'm wondering if Roku is the way to go or not....if we get some kind of wire, dh says we can hook the computer directly to the tv. So wouldn't that serve the same purpose? Or can you only get all those channels with the Roku box?

If you can do that, it is a good option as well. You won't get all the same stuff, but it is still a lot of free or almost free (netflix) TV.

  8. I haven't run across that among too many Protestants. Lutherans, however, tend to teach the story of the Reformation pretty often. When I was starting to study world history seriously, I was already very familiar with Biblical history, Reformation history, American history, and California history. That's because it's what was always covered. From there it was fascinating to fill in all the gaps, and also to study those first four at an adult level.

    I love world history!

Well Lutheran is not very far removed, so that one is easier.

    {Links below are from wikipedia}

I don't know too many SB that know that

The SBC became a separate denomination in 1845 in Augusta, Georgia, following a regional split with northern Baptists over the issues of slavery.
or 7thDay Adventists that admit that their church began after Miller wrongly predicted the 2nd coming of Christ in 1844...

out of this third Millerite group that the Seventh-day Adventist Church arose
I'm not trying to single out these two churches; these are just two that I've had experiences with members not knowing their church history.

When my friends church hop, they don't place much interest in studying the history of how the church/denomination was founded.

  9. Two questions-- what does BBT tell you about your thyroid? Secondly, whether it's for thyroid or fertility, how important is taking it at the same time every day? My wake time can vary by a half hour or so.

This is guess work, but I find that for every hour earlier I wake, the temp is .10 degrees lower. It is a guess, because I don't entirely know what it would have been if I'd slept later. I've had times where the times didn't cause much fluctuation and times when it it did.
