  1. I haven't used LHTH, but we are using LHFHG right now. I teach the preschool sunday school class (ages 2-5) at our church and have used activities and songs from our HOD curriculum in that class.
  2. For those of you who have used these units, do you use them as your stand alone history? I just wonder if we would need to supplement. Also, what were your thoughts on the program? http://www.homeschoolinthewoods.com/HTTA/TTS/
  3. I understand where you are coming from. We are "New Covenant" as well. We believe in the different dispensations and rightly dividing the Word. I haven't found any curriculum for the younger ages, in fact I have to omit alot of what our current bible-study entails (came with our boxed curriculum). The Berean Bible Society has some material for older kids, but I have not really looked at the material that closely. http://www.growingupingrace.com/index.html
  4. We chose HOD over MFW. From what I saw with MFW, it was more preschool-ish. My son had already done the letter per week thing in preschool. LHFHG has been a great fit for my son and I am glad we went that route.
  5. This is my first year homeschooling and we are using LHFHG for K. We do everything from the right-hand side and pick and choose from the left.
  6. This is our first year and we are using LHFHG. We ditched the devotion book as well and don't always do the rhymes. Actually we stick mainly to the right-hand page and include the bible verse and history and occasionally the hands-on/dramatic play from the left side. Even with these tweaks, I really like the program. Since this is my first year I appreciate the hand holding.
  7. We are on week 10 of LHFHG (doing a 4 day week). It has been great for us. I am not using the devotional book but we are sticking to everything else. This is our first year homeschooling and I needed the hand-holding that HOD gives me. We are planning to use Beyond next year but I am not sure about continuing with it after that. I want to try things "on my own", and think I will have the confidence to do it by then. I am REALLY enjoying this year and it has been SO easy to implement.
  8. My mom is in kidney failure too. Growing up if we ever weren't feeling well she would say "don't complain unless you have taken something for it". Needless to say, that is not the best advice. Pain relievers are a last resort for me now.
  9. What about Amanda Bennett's unit studies? www.unitstudy.com
  10. We are having a great time with LHFHG! I am doing a 4 day week and that hasn't been the headache that I thought it was going to be.
  11. I was taught to put the numbers into an "is/of/what" sentence too. Then you use the formula is/of = percent/100. Anytime I come across a percentage problem I say in my head "is over of equals percent over 100" Hope that helps.
  12. We are about 2 months in with LHFHG and are so happy with it! I love that the guide walks me through our day. We are doing a 4 day week with the program and it is working out nicely.
  13. I am in week 4 of LHFHG with my 5yo. We like it but he isn't a fan of the rhymes either. I am actually dividing them up over the week so we aren't doing the whole rhyme at a time. Last week it worked out perfectly....I just did the section that had to do with the Bible story for each day. He is asking for more science too so we got the Elemental Exploring science curriculum, which looks easy enough to add in without it being too much (on me or him). I am doing a 4 day week and hope to spread LHFHG and Beyond over a longer time span. We are at the bottom of the age bracket so I have some of the same concerns about being ready for the challenging older guides. DS does like the Reddy Fox book. Sometimes to get him involved in the story I have him act things out as I am reading. When Reddy got hurt and was "lame", I had him show me what that looked like and he kinda limped and dragged his leg behind him (I think that was suggested in the guide). When Granny Fox was crawling around on her belly trying to sneak up on Peter Rabbit (that is who it was, right?), I had DS get on the ground and show me how to do that. Maybe that would help.
