10 Good
  1. I only have one child but I hurt my ankle last year and my Mom (bless her) came in to run my home daycare for a few days. She loved the idea that I had made her a list and a time-line of our day. She said it made her feel much more comfortable and we got along wonderfully. I just said that I knew that I was going to be sleeping a lot and not able to be "right there" when she needed to ask me questions so I wrote everything down for her. Things didn't run as smoothly as they normally do but they were much better than I expected!
  2. I made sure that I always let my dd know the true reason for the seasons. So when it came time to talk to her about Santa and the Easter Bunny I told her it was a game that we played, and can continue to play, for as long as we both choose too. She will be 12 next month and we are still playing. As for the Tooth fairy, some little girl told her she was not real at a birthday party, my dd party at that. She was hurt but seemed assured that things would be ok since I was willing to continue the game. We did have a talk that she was not ever, under no circumstances, never to talk to other children about it. Just in case they don't know.
  3. My dd did not want to play the piano, I really tried to play it up, so to speak, but she would not even try. But when she was 10 I got her a guitar and she started lessons. She loves it and is doing fantastic!! Her instructor is wonderful and is the worship leader of my mothers church. Anyway, we are VERY happy and I don't think it is EVER to late.
  4. I have seen it here in Kansas and someone told me it meant a drug house was close. I am not sure if that means a perspective buyer is suppose to just start knocking on doors or what but....that is what I was told. I really think they are ugly.
  5. I think that they are very modest but that there is very little of that in the world today (and it is nice to see it every once in awhile). I think that you may cause a stir at the pool for a different reason though, just because it is different. But that may just be something that everyone who thinks and/or believes differently will have to weather.
  6. conditions that clear up when people are out swimming in the pools during the summer may be clearing up because of the sun. That is what happens with me, anyway. A short few sessions in a tanning bed would have me right back to smooth arms.
  7. I have friends who homeschool many and they try to use curriculum's that will spread out over a few grade levels, then pass down to the next set of children. Of course the start up can be costly unless you can find them used. Since I just have one child I try to sell last years stuff to buy the next years set. I really hit the library hard even now. If they don't have a book that I needed they would order it or borrow it from another library for me. I really love the Library!!!
  8. but she didn't start out that way. She started out with Prima Latina and just couldn't get into it. I just decided to put it aside and try Latina Christiana I the next year, since I had already bought it, and she loved it!!. I am not sure if it was the DVD's or just that she was a year older but it is now her favorite subject.
  9. Well, I am single Mom to one girl who is 11, almost 12. We tried kindergarten in a public school but it just didn't work so we started homeschooling in first grade. I run a home daycare to "bring home the bacon" so to speak. My dd is a competitive gymnast and that keeps us pretty busy!! Suzy in KS
  10. over the years but Apologia is the only one that comes even close to my belief system and does not seem watered down. I had my Mom who is a college science major look at all our science's through out the years and she is very impressed with the labs and information given in Apologia. My personal view's are that we really don't know if it is old or new earth. We are making an educated guess using science and our belief system, whatever that may be. We have to try to find the right fit for our family but as to the science accuracy Apologia is sound. I did take a few science courses in college and try to have my dd write her labs like they ask for there. As for the test I think that they would be harder since all the college test's seem to be multiple choice and these they have to think about and write out. Of course this is all just my opinion. :001_smile:
  11. We have to notify the school that we are going to be homeschooling if the child has been attending that school in the past and will be looking for them to attend again or for a transfer. For some reason that call was nerve racking for me.
  12. and finally found the Beautiful Feet guides. My dd loves them and I do too. Personally, I didn't like ANY history until a few years ago when I went back to school. That is when I really fell for it!
