  1. Okay, I'm being nosy :D, but I'm wondering how you and DH decided on this area. If you don't mind sharing.

I grew up in FL and NC. I loved NC and didn't want to move back to FL. We now live in Oregon. I really do like it but sometimes I feel stuck. I admire folks who up and move. DH's job is here (13 years so far), his parents, my oldest dd and grandchildren, my parents rent the other half of our duplex, etc. Moving sounds like an adventure.

:) We actually had a situation fall into our laps. Free house and such. It will be an adventure if it happens the way we are planning. I am getting the kiddos prepared by refering to it as an adventure. :)

  2. I'm anxiously waiting on 3 packages that I ordered last month and am trying to not worry that they've been waylaid, but it sure is hard when you're used to faster service.

Same boat here. I keep thinking that it might be lost in the mail and then what would I do. I would be out not only a very large chunk of money but most of our school supplies. I am trying not to be to anxious but it isnt working. :)

I automatically qualified for free media mail shipping because of the order amount (I think it should have been free priority but who am I?). I had the option to upgrade for $20 to standard shipping. I am kicking myself now for not doing it. I did not have the option for tracking though, at least not that I remember.

  3. I've had media mail orders take 6 weeks. Where is the store located? There are areas of the country without electricity due to the winter weather.

6 weeks wow! I haven't had anything take longer than 20 days. I didn't even think about the weather back east. That's where the order is coming from.

Okay I will sit tight for a while and hopefully it shows up!

  4. I purchased books from a certain online book store last month for the new curriculum we are going to try. It was a very expensive order, nearly all of my homeschool budget. I recieved an inital confirmation email and then a day later I received a shipping email. The second stated that my books would be shipping free media mail.

I have yet to receive the books and this was 28 days ago. I checked with the post office and they said a general time frame from the stores zip code to mine is 17 days. I emailed the company 2 days ago and they haven't returned my email. I of course didn't have the option to get delivery confirmation or tracking.

What should I do? Can I do anything?

  5. I just wanted to say that you can get the DLX from Pleasant Hill Grain for $569 with no shipping costs. That makes it only a little over $100 more than their Bosch price. The trick is that that do not have a link to their DLX page anywhere on their site. Here is the link to the page: http://www.pleasanthillgrain.com/electrolux_magic_mill_dlx_mixer.aspx

I'm really not trying to sway you! This is just the absolute best price we found for the DLX, but it was not an obvious find, so I wanted to let you know about it!

This is a great deal.....but the deal I am getting for the Bosch is $350 for the whole get up plus some extra attachments. :) This is why I even started having the dillema. The Kitchenaid was on sale for $307 and the Bosch for $350.

I put the Bosch on hold and will be picking it up this Friday. :D

  6. Thanks for the opinions. I looked at the DLX. Wow that is a pretty machine! :) However based on price and needs I am leaning toward the Bosch. I think that in the end the Kitchenaid will be too light of a machine (even at the professional level) for my needs.

I keep seeing that the Bosch doesnt handle small tasks well, is this because the attachments fit in the bottom rather than the top like a Kitchenaid?

  7. My dh and I have an option of moving to MO (1.5 hr from Springfield, 20 min from Lebanon) here in the next little while. How is the homeschooling climate? Are there many thing to do for fun educational field trips? Are there many families? Co-ops?

I checked out of HSLDA and it looks like I just need to file once a year and keep a record of our school hours....is this right?

I am sure I have more questions but this will do for now. :)

  8. here in Northland, New Zealand. Public schools start up for the year in a couple of weeks, so it's a great time to come for a visit. (& you get a good exchange rate for your US$ ;) )

    Blessings.

I would love this! But I do belive 5 round trip plane tickets would max out my budget. lol However if I could find a babysitter.......hmmm better not go there is almost February and way to tempting!!

  9. CC are not worth it to us. The appeal, ease, perks are just a marketing practice IMO. I would rather know that I am paying for my merchandise or service right then and there. I dont want my mail box filled with statements, that alone makes me stress.

Plus (and this is coming from a BTDT point of view) life just isn't predictable at times. You never know when you will be making great or even decent money one day and nothing the next. It can happen to anyone at any given time. The stress of having a $1000 credit card statement show up when you have nothing in the bank is just too much. Just not worth the hassle or perks.

  10. I have a friend whose ds is in 7th grade and has pretty severe aspergers and sensory issues (unsure of what exactly). He currently is in public school but it is a nightmare for this poor kid. He has been denied lunch, breaks, activities, etc because is performance is "poor" or because he takes to long to finish assignments. It has been a battle to have IEP's, meeting, etc with the school. My friend is ready to pull him out because he is begining to suffer in more than just academics.

He is a fantasic reader but completely disorganized, has a very hard time with writing, does fantastic on the computer. He has a hard time with speaking.

So here is the question, which boxed curric (if any) have you had good results with? Is there one program that is easier (that you have found) to tweak to fit your aspie child?

I say boxed because his mom works full time, has 3 other girls all very active in the community and activities, and a million other things going on. The simpler the curric and planning the better for her.

    Anyway thanks for any info.
