Me too. Luckily monsters can't get you if you are under the covers. :001_smile:
Yes! Yes, yes, yes. I always knew this was the case - thanks for confirming.
-
Well, in my case, I had a bunch of different irrational fears - I was reading a book of Stephen King's short stories, so I got new fears every night!
This is me, too!
I feel perfectly safe from corporeal dangers - it's the unknown and unexplainable that freak me out!
-
I marked "other" - I generally don't get creeped out being home alone, but every so often something strikes me just right (or maybe that should be wrong!) and my imagination starts going wild.

:lol::lol::lol:
This site is hilarious!
I like that mom. (And that does sound like something I can imagine Remudamom saying.)
But you have to really respect this lady's persuasion skills.

Most county 4-H programs include a gun club. My dc haven't done it, but some friends in the neighboring county have, and highly recommend it.

My son is doing a poll of 4-H'ers for part of his 4-H project this year. He is looking for what are the most popular projects among different age groups. So if you have kids who are in 4-H now, or were last year, could you answer these questions, please? If you have multiple kids, please answer for each one separately.
1) Name the projects you have done in 4-H (ex. Beef, Sewing, etc.)
2) Are you in the US or Canada?
3) How old are you now?
Thank you! :001_smile:
DD - 14yo - Cooking, rockets, flight, creative writing, lawncare, hamster, dog
DD - 12yo - sewing, child development, decorating, photography
We're in the US (Ohio)

Yes it is.
-
Thanks - I'll try it.

I like it! Sounds fabulous.

No good suggestions - but I feel your pain.
Older dd is starting to turn a corner that started (for her) at 11. (She's nearing 15 now.)
I don't know if it's a cause or an effect, but she and I have had more reasonable discussions lately. I don't know if I'm backing off so she's not feeling the need to rebel as much, or if she's rebelling less, so I'm backing off more.
Regardless, things are looking up w/her.
Now younger dd is just 12 - completely different side of the mountain.:tongue_smilie:

to thin caramel dip so that I can drizzle it on a pie? I really don't want to make a trip to the store when I have a whole tub of the stuff that I won't use otherwise.
Maybe some evaporated milk? Or even real milk?
Anyone btdt?

Dd's - who are old enough to know better - who are right behind me as I clean messing it back up again.
Handing either dd an item - any item - saying, "Go put this away." Then finding it on the kitchen counter the next time I walk by. (Yelling) "Is this where this goes???!!!!"
-
I am definitely a wonderer. I have no time to make things happen because I am always busy trying to figure out what has already happened. :tongue_smilie:
This is me, too!

Good advice here - just make sure you don't try to turn it on before drying it out! (Learned from experience.)
-
Good advice! I've noticed that flip-flops have the same affect as slippers.

IMHO it sounds like a bad cold that has settled in her chest, maybe an upper respiratory infection at this point. In my experience flu really knocks someone on their a**. Many people confuse severe colds, etc with the flu. I had a bad flu quite a few years ago, and I could barely get out of bed to use the bathroom. Working would have been impossible!
:iagree:
This is how most colds I've ever had (I seem to get one annually - about this time of year in fact [knock on wood]) resolve. One year it did actually become pneumonia, but most of the time it just feels like it should be.
-
And have you checked out teachingmom.com's advent calendar?
Last year's is still up, but you can click day by day and find TONS of resources for Christmas preparation, including scripture, hymns, and other poems.

Lovely, Jean. I love that poem and song.
I also like I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, especially the 4th verse:
1. I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
2. I thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
3. And in despair I bowed my head
'There is no peace on earth,' I said,
'For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.'
4. Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
'God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.'
5. Till ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

These terms might seem disturbing at first.
But, having listened to numerous interviews with Dawkins, he is excellent at explaining his POV. The terms don't seem that bad after becoming familiar with his arguments.
Who knew Dawkins and Rush Limbaugh were so much alike?

I found mine at Meijer's, too. It took some searching in the laundry detergent aisle - it was right next to the Borax.

You could argue that everyone should experience the military or jail for the same reasons. It just doesn't wash.
This was my first thought, too - if that's true, then shouldn't we all spend some time in jail "for the experience"?
I think I would ask what a previous poster said - "Why?"
Why do they need that experience? How does it help them? How does knowing those things equip them to achieve, or to impact the world in a positive way? And why would someone think that they're not exposed to such things out in the world?

We very much follow Rick Steve's Philosophy of travel and have enjoyed "traveling through the back door". Our best days have been those where we try to blend in with the locals and not worry about any sort of schedule.
Dd LOVES Rick Steves. Because of him, the place on earth she would most like to visit is Dingle, Ireland:D
And I am inspired by Sputterduck's grandmother! What a great saying. It reminds me of driving around our city with my best friend back in high school when we were first allowed out with our new driver's licenses. I swear that's why I know the city so well now - Stacy and I were lost in just about every corner of it at one time or another.

Oh - those elf slippers are too cute! And I love the purses. My ornaments are going pretty well. And only one of the sweaters didn't felt. The rest are great!

It's all about the journey! I packed my little bitty civic this summer, put my 5 year old in his car seat and drove to Montana for a month. From California. With nothing but clothes, computer, and camping gear. We went up through Oregon and Washington over through Idaho to Montana. Then we drove around for weeks. Then we went to Yellowstone and checked out Wyoming. After that we went back to Idaho. Then, I really wanted to go back home and we drove 13 hours straight from Idaho straight down through the bottom of Utah, cut through Nevada and Las Vegas and into California. I was happy to be home.
That's the kind of traveler I am. :p
This is the kind of trip I fantasize about, but dh would probably point out that I would be a nervous wreck not knowing where we'd land next. Maybe I need some un-planned day trips to start stretching my wanderlust!
Hive! I need your comeback expertise!

Here's the story:
This morning, after a back & forth w/my daughters, I made my facebook status this: "Would someone please explain to my daughters that being a mom is not the same thing as being a dork, even though they look very similar?"
A friend posted some defense, my daughters rebutted, another friend posted a defense of dorks and claimed ownership of the term :), then my a$$ of a brother (ask me how I really feel) posts this:
"But Michelle, You are a Dork!! I've known that for years, I'm just glad someone finally agrees with me."
The background is that my jerk of a brother can't speak to me without throwing in some kind of juvenile insult. On Thanksgiving he posted this gem: "Hope you have a good turkey... (Oops! You are a good turkey!!!)"
At my grandmother's funeral dinner back in the fall, he managed to get three digs in (that I noticed), there were probably more, but I tried just to stay away from him as much as possible and ignore him otherwise - which has been my overall strategy since I entered adulthood and came to realize that he was never going to be anything but that jerk kid I grew up with.
So - I need your help. You ladies who have a gift with such things - can you conjure up a subtle yet devastating comeback to post for my brother? I would forever be in your debt. :D
