  1. Ask your doctor to screen your ANA and ANA titer. I have systemic lupus, but there is another called discoid lupus that affects the skin. That was one of the first things that popped into my head as I was reading your post.

If your levels come back abnormal, ask for a referral to a rhuematologist.

I hope you are able to get some answers quickly to what is going on.

  2. Have you thought about using DIVE Biology with Apologia? My ds14 is using DIVE combined with Apologia and BJU. We have been really pleased with the amount of information it provides. DIVE also has an AP version of Biology. I believe the author of DIVE states that the DIVE courses are viewed as Honors with the amount of information in the course.

I haven't tried Red Wagon Tutorials, but have heard really good things about them as well from friends who have used it.

  3. My son has requested a homemade german chocolate cake for his 18th birthday next weekend. Only problem is that I have never made a german chocolate cake, let alone one from scratch. My grandmother has an amazing recipe, that she is yet to willingly share with any of her grandchildren.

So Hive, does anyone have a tried and true, melt in your mouth, german chocolate cake recipe?

All help is so appreciated. It is the first time since he was 12 that he has let me give him a birthday party and I want to give him the few things he has requested.

  4. However, I am posting because one of the signs that I am possibly getting too much thyroid hormone is severe emotional agitation. When I dropped my medicine back a notch I was fine again.

Of course, there is always the fact that thyroid function is integrally linked with the endocrine system. So if her thyroid is not functioning properly it can throw off the rest.

This is why I was questioning if it could be linked to the meds being increased. I really am not too familiar with the symptoms of it being too high. She has only been on Synthroid for a year and they were able to put her on the right dose the first time around, so we haven't had to deal with how she will react if it is too much for her.

  5. I really need advice from moms who have dds that have taken/ are taking Synthroid while a preteen.

Dd10's endocrinologist increased her Synthroid at the end of September. Over the past couple of weeks, it is as if someone has switched bodies with my sweet little girl. She is soooo moody and gets angry very easily. She is my only girl, so I have absolutely no clue if this is normal preteen hormonal behavior or if it has more to do with her meds.

What has been your experience with your dd taking Synthroid during this time of her youth? I am at a complete and total loss on what to do. I never know if my words will get twisted and she will melt down.

  6. Ds 17 has been working in a retail store for the past year. No start up other than buying a couple of pairs of slacks and collared shirts. He also works with my husband when he needs an extra set of hands.

Ds 14 mowed lawns for a couple of neighbors and some friends during the summer. We gave him our old lawn mower after we bought a new one and my husband would drive him to the houses he mowed that were not nearby. Last winter, he shoveled driveways for our elderly neighbors and just took donations.

  7. I am trying to wade through the same here. My dd10 was also finishing up R&S 4 at the beginning of the year. She also has not had any type of formal dictation or narration. I went ahead and stopped R&S and had her start ALL. She really likes it better than R&S. We also started WWS, but I am doing it at a much slower pace. We are taking 2 days to work through one lesson. I am wanting to spend a little more time going over narration with her. Hopefully, someone with more experience will jump in here for you.
