  1. Snakes I can do, but spiders, now they scare the bejeezies outta me. A couple of weeks ago I was rinsing my hair in the bathroom sink when I opened my eyes and saw a huge spider.... Turned out it was living in the sink behind that little hole in the porcelain for overunning water. I think my heart is fine now -- what a stress test that was!

LOL I dont really like spiders either, however we have lots of those too and I have gotten use to them, i kill them in a hurry! I think because the house is an old camp on a lake, the water draws the spiders and the bats. But knock wood since the renovations, the bats are staying outside! ;) The spiders we have to spray for constantly!

  2. Well... I didn't find myself suddenly single, but I did find myself suddenly with a child.. At that point I was 19, working part time minimum wage jobs, living with my parents, and had no significant life plan.

I went back to school, and am majoring in history. I'll be getting my PhD and (hopefully!) teaching college. I picked that because not only do I love history, but as a college professor I have some flexibility with hours, and can work from home alot also (grading papers, planning, etc.)

I also have a long term plan to make my DD responsible for her own education as much as is feasible. We live off of scholarships, grants and loans. Not ideal, and only works out to less than 12K a year, but it gets us by and I can still school her and get my own education!

I found my self in the same situation about 10 yrs ago.. My daughter will be 10 in august. Im still single and although I do have family to help, I struggle every day with how to make our life better. I spent alot of years home with her just working from home so I could be with her and barely getting by... I didnt want to lose that special time. So last year finally decided to go back to college. I finished my TA certificate, now finishing my associates. Plus I still have credits from way back when I first went to college. I just have one more semester online classes in the fall and then I need to decide where to go next for my bachelors. I have a lot of ARt and Pysch classes under my belt so im hoping to do art therapy eventually.

But I know what you mean, I actually decided to take the loans for school to help live , while Im schooling. But everything Ive done in my life since she was born, I did in a way so that I could be with her most. No babysitters (other then my mother) and no daycare. I have a little resale business I started 3 years ago.. and while that was doing okay. getting us by. it was a hit and miss and really winter wasnt so good. I just opened it back in April and now it seems to be really picking up. So that does help.

Its frustrating sometimes though when you see "Big happy familys" and thats not what you have. Dont get me wrong, I love my daughter and wouldnt change that for the world. But I would love to have someone to lean on and have adult conversation with! ;) When your the single parent you have to be the constant brick holding the house together! It can be hard ! I havent even been on a date in 3 years.. :tongue_smilie:

  3. I know this is a bad time, as re: the market, but you simply must sell the house.

Actually its my parents house.. and they wont being selling it. I think it was just a freak thing with the snake.. The other critters all happened during a major renovation of the house. .. the bats were before and the bird and chipmunk were during.. :) Its really not a bad house. ;)

Oh and my house is almost done with construction.. so we will be moving soon.. ;)

  4. Oh geez.. Ive had a bird before that was annoying, and so was the chipmunk... but Bats they scare the bejeezus outta me and we use to get them alot ..(KNocking wood) .. But the snake.. that was just creeepppy gross.. thank god it was near the door and I just took the broom and scared it out.. we live in NY so it probably wasnt a bad snake.. but I'd rather see them behind glass !!

Oh god.. bats.. ugghh eckkkk yuck

  5. OMG I wanted to scream ...

We just got back from the doctor, daughter has strep, Im taking the dogs out and shes inside yelling for me. She was standing on the couch, and actually much calmer then I would have been , if I was the one that had spotted it!

Thank god it was right by the door and I chased it out with a broom! :D

The dogs were No help! ! ;)

    UGhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:tongue_smilie: I hate snakes!

  6. Thank you all ! I finally called the doctor as the fever was just lingering too long & she was sleeping way more then normal even when shes sick. (funny how a mother knows her child).. anyway.. they did a strep test ( which is a whole other story, but I was very proud she held her head back and let the nurse do the little swab with out a problem! ) The test came back positive! so we ran and got the meds, so now hopefully all will get back to normal! Just hoping I dont have it because my throat has been sore too..yikes!

  7. Can your child tolerate spicy things? It may sound weird, but if she'll eat/drink spicy things Franks Red Hot is great for sore throats. It's only got a couple ingredients, the first 2 being vinegar and cayenne pepper. Those are 2 big natural remedies for sore throats. When I get a sore throat I'll take spoonful of Franks or eat something coated with it if I can eat. It might also help clear her sinuses ;)

Wow thats good to know! She does put franks on food now and then. She might be up for that challenge! ;) Ill mention it to her. Thanks! :)

  8. I have always told my daughter what my parents always told us.. Never Lie, because you will be in more trouble then if you actually told the truth. She actually had a few little spells of lying but then would remember what I said and would always tell me the truth within a few minutes after the lie and she would add.. I just cant lie to you mom.. ;) ... I just explained that maybe what she did was wrong or not right ( and we would deal with that) but if she lied about it , it would be so much worse. So just tell the truth!

Im sure every child is different.

But it always worked for us and seems to be working for mine.

  9. I did shine a light and her throat is very red. But her tonsils have always been soo huge that its hard to tell. I didnt see any white specks, just very red. Her nose was a little stuffy but not really runny. she did have a tummy ache in the beginning but hasnt mentioned that again. ughhh i hate when she sick :(

  10. Okay.. Day 3 and she woke up with no fever. So I left her with my mother and I went to work. My mother calls 5 minutes ago and her temp is back up to 100.3 ..

She had no medicine today. I have yet to call the doctor because shes been up and down ... She did say her throat is worse.

Now im worried it may be strep??

  11. Never officially diagnosed, but yes. Lots of sunshine and excercise help. I never want people to worry about me, so I'm very good at pretending things are fine.

At 33 I have suffered for years and for the most part have kept it secret. Which isnt always good, but I'm dealing with it at my own pace. Sunshine & Exercise definately help! ;)

  12. Definitely look into smaller SUVs or a crossover. There will be less room in the back with most crossovers. I drive a Chevy Traverse (pssst!! It's really a station wagon. ;)) and love it. There are others similar.

I'm not familiar with most of the ones suggested as we have always bought domestic (Incidentally, we've had more than one Ford we've put 200,000+ miles on before it's time was up.).

Have you considered a mini-van? They're pretty pet friendly.

I definately do NOT want a mini-van.. LOL my mother has one and I really hate driving it!

Do you really like your Traverse? They seem really nice and I like the style. Ive also seen some smaller crossover Volvo's that look nice. I know that I dont really want a huge SUV.

This is the time when I hate being single :tongue_smilie: because I cant stand car shopping ! ;)

  13. I have a Suburban and, while I don't want to rush my little guys into growing up, I look forward with anticipation to the days when I'll no longer have to drive this bus. It's ugly. It handles like a truck (our other vehicle). It's unoriginal. It's a blight on the environment. The only reason I drive the thing is because I have five growing boys.

I can understand wanting four doors and storage, but surely there are ways to satisfy those conditions without getting a SUV. Or maybe you can go for a compact-type SUV.

I totally understand what your saying. Those things are HUGE! ;) I definately do not want something that big. I was thinking of one of the smaller SUV's Like a pilot , envoy, or a traverse?

  14. If so what kind & how do you like it??

Im a single parent /one child & 2 large dogs.. Im really wanting to get a SUV, I currently drive a volkswagon Beetle. Its just not a family friendly car.. even with just the two of us, it would be nice to have something to travel in with 4 doors and storage in the back! ;)

  15. I would be very careful with whitening products , they remove the enamel from your teeth and can cause severe sensitivity! I used a whitening toothpaste for several months and then realized it was the cause of my severe sensitive teeth. It was a horrible pain and took me months to fix. I had to use sensodine and drink only water with a straw.. and still had trouble.. eventually I thought to use ACT and that did the trick! I switched to crest with baking soda and continued using ACT & it works great for whitening and doesnt remove the enamel. :)

  16. My daughter came home yesterday morning from PS not feeling well, she had a fever 99.. and then was okay at night , went to sleep and woke at 6:30 this morning with a 103.3 temp! wow, she felt terrible and so did I! She is Still running a low fever but much better then this a.m.

I really hate when she gets sick, It was more frequent after she started PS.

Im really hoping that next year HS'ing cuts back on the sickness ;)
