  1. I don't know - It is essentially Madeleine without the 'M.' Madeleine is a very popular name, and has been used a lot over the past ten years, so that I think people will pronounce Adeleine the way you want them to. Be prepared when they all shorten it to the easier to say/spell 'Addy' though! ;) Adeleine is beautiful. :)
  2. Good luck with the move! Maybe I'll see you around the city. :D
  3. We lived in Kailua, on the windward side of Oahu. Three of the kids were born in Hawaii and it is where I met my husband (18 years married tomorrow!!). We miss it. Luckily, my parents still live there, so we always have a place to visit. :)
  4. Thanks, ladies. :) Jen -- where are you located in Oregon?
  5. Well, I used to spend a lot of time on the old WTM site when our homeschooling adventure was first starting and it was such a source of support! Then we got busy...got pregnant...moved from Hawaii to Virginia. After we had the baby, things started to settle down and I got to spend time with the new, impoved hive. Again, so much good advice and such a willingness to help from all those who answered my questions and commented on my concerns. Then we decided to move to Oregon. Things got really busy, again. But now, finally (hopefully!) things are starting to settle down once more, and I have more time to spend here. What I am trying to say is that, no matter the stops and starts, the long dry spells and such, each time I log on, I feel like I have found an old friend. The familiar, supportive community is wonderful. Thanks, everyone. :)
  6. We are going to be starting Joy Hakim's The History of US with dd 13, 22 10 & ds 7. Starting with book 1 and going to see how far we get. :)
  7. Yes, the one I was describing had the "sometime this week" area at the bottom. But all of the schedules you have shown me are great! I have a lot of ideas to work with!! Thanks for all of your help, everyone!!
  8. It just pulls up this thread...which a fine one, though. ;)
  9. That wasn't the one I was thinking of....but it is really nice, too! Thanks! :)
  10. that had a Monday-Friday listing at the top, with an area below that gave a more general "have to get done this week" listing. I have searched and searched but can't remember what the thread was about! If you have ANY idea what I am talking about and are the person who posted it, could you share it again? Or, if you know of something similar, point me in the right direction? Now that I have all the books and such that I need for next year I have to start the planning and I really liked the look of the planner. (Although other ideas are welcome, too! :) ) Thanks so much!!
  11. Thank you! I am glad to know that -- the book looks like such fun! :)
  12. (w/o the whole Town series?) Just curious... Thanks in advance!
  13. Yes, she will be amazing! :) Thanks for your input and the info on LAW!
  14. I am looking for a program to help my dd (8th grade) learn to write essay papers. She is a strong writer but she needs to refine her technique. Both the Elegant Essay and Essay Voyage have caught my eye. We have never used IEW -- and we just learned about Michael Clay Thompsons' books. I am wondering whether it is possible to jump into either program without doing any of IEW's/MCT's previous programs. Also, any opinions on either program would be appreciated!
  15. Thanks, Erica! I am just having a hard time figuring out what to do for science next year. We did Calvert last year and getting my mind back into thinking what to do for each grade, each subject is proving more difficult than I thought!
  16. to work for both a 5th grader and an 8th grader? Have any of you tried to use the program with mixed ages? One of the beautiful things about homeschooling is the ability to "tweak" -- but am wondering if it is worth it here? Thanks in advance!
  17. When entering a MCT program, should you go down a grade if you have an on-grade student? Since his program is for "gifted"? (For ex: would I start with the 3/4 grade poetry-- instead of the 4/5 -- with my 5th grader?)
  18. Can I jump right into 5/6 with my dd (5th grade), or should I backtrack and do the 3/4 books so that she covers all the subjects? Would appreciate any thoughts you can share!
  19. I have, and I think I may go that route (if not Kingfisher, then the Usborne). I was just trying to find something that would a bit less time consuming for me as far as scheduling, etc. With four of them to schedule/manage now I am a tad worried. lol Thanks, again, for your valuable input!
