Here in Japan the girls wear leggings under their skirts and dresses for warmth in winter and to soak the sweat up in the summer. I too find it more comfortable to have bike shorts under my skirts.

With iPads, you'd be able to facetime. :D

The pots I use for our peppers and tomatoes is large, but not huge. Maybe 1X2X1 foot. They fit nicely on our patio along with all the other garden pots. Check out the Bountiful Container and The Vegetable Gardner's Container Bible, both excellent texts. This is my third year growing veggies on the patio and it looks like we're in for a great crop this year. It's very easy and so rewarding to just walk out and pick a few tomatoes or snip a few herbs.

She should be able to receive your texts through your phone number and not Skype as a regular text message. I haven't used Skype in ages, but it should notify you when something comes in. Have you checked the settings in the app?

Ditto for us. I do not want to pay extra money for tech support. I want the five hundred dollar item to actually work as it is supposed to.
I'm not sure why you all are having issues. i've used my RS on at least three different computers and have never had a problem getting it to work or any hoops to jump though. Not only that, I've received excellent customer service from them. I recently discovered that I lost one of our discs. After explaining through live chat, they immediately sent us out a new one and I had it within the week!

My son wants to learn Italian, and really Rosetta Stone is our only option. It's actually worked well for him. He did it for awhile a few years ago, and I was surprised at how much he remembered when we talked about it last month. He'll be starting it up again in the fall. Right now, he's also doing Duolingo. I think when you use RS, it does need to be supplemented. Guess we'll find out in a few months.

Looking forward to meeting you! You're Lego loving son will fit right in. :D

The thing is, if you already have Apple products, you already have the apps, music, and movies that go with it. If you go another system, you'd have to repurchase. Perhaps a refurbished iPad mini?

Does she know for sure that they would accept homeschool PE for the graduation requirement?
This is what I would wonder too. Is PE offered in summer school? That was when I took it so I could have my German and Band class during the year. I know the school we are looking at now says they'll only take "accredited" classes to add to their transcript and meet graduation requirements. Perhaps he should look into duel enrollment to ensure accreditation or get something in writing from the counselor.

Thanks for this post. After the one about planners, I started using OneNote again, but I know I still have a lot to learn. I also had no idea there was a SOTW video blog. Very cool!

My 14 yo just got sucked into Hunger Games. I find it very difficult to get him to branch out of his favorites, which he reads over, and over, and over. . .

Do kids have to be present to turn these in? We don't have a store near us, obviously, but wonder if I could have my mom turn it in for my son.

The Scholastic summer reading program this year is themed Reading Under the Stars.

These are great ideas! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the clarification. I just went back to check the listing and see that now.

UGH! It's not view-able here. Wonder if I can find another version. Him being able to watch a clip would be so helpful. Good to hear so many found it to be a favorite too. Going to rethink this one.

Remember that Fix It is not just editing practice. It is a complete grammar program. Also, it is non consumable. You are purchasing the teacher's book, which gives you unlimited permission to print student books for your own family and for students in your co-op classes. (Each teacher should have their own book.) Thus, you can even sell it used.
Does this go for the new versions too? I haven't looked incredibly closely at it yet, but the student book seemed consumable to me. I agree that the older version, the teacher book with five stories, is quite an amazing deal all things considered.

I was actually thinking of doing the same upon my initial reading, but would like to look at it again.

Following. We'd like to do it next year too. I showed my son a past test, and he actually knew most of the material. Like the co-op idea. We are thinking of doing a Classics Club and inviting the public schoolers.

I have a iLuv it's a case and Bluetooth keyboard. Now that I've added Word to my iPad, I find myself using it all the time. My friends love the setup. ;)

I'm away and forgot my son's book. Today he's supposed to start memorizing the second poem, lesson 15 or so. What is the title? I only remember that it was one word, starting with O. Thanks.

They won't send out the test until close to the testing time, then it needs to be returned by a certain date. Probably for security/test integrity issues.

Finally got our results. Our 4th grader didn't do too badly, we already knew he needs more test taking practice. The 8th grader got a silver though! So happy for him. They don't know it yet though, we're going to present the awards at our potluck tomorrow. Our group got one gold and two silvers. Not too bad.

Surprisingly, the leggings in summer do make it more comfortable. Girls here will even wear leggings under their shorts in summer!
