Oh, good idea. I'll start a log for him.

Ok, was wondering about that. Thanks! I think I had my head too stuck on public speaking, that I hadn't really given the extracurricular much thought. I like that idea a lot better! He's excited to be making his first quiz today, LOL

My son decided to lead our zoology co-op class this year, much to the delight of all the kids. (He's entering 9th grade and showing us moms up with the kids excited to do their work and participate.) We are wanting to give him some sort of public speaking credit for this as he lesson plans and facilitates the class. Any ideas for course description? Grading options? Any suggestions on how to supplement this to really be a benefit for him? I know it's all sort of vague, but I really didn't think he was serious when he chose to take this on.

We are going to use Prego too. I also found the instructor's/testing book and then ordered the workbook used. Taking a risk there, but I figure I can rewrite it if it's too marked up. I also found on Kindle Unlimited some Italian story books. We'll see how it goes.

There's definitely something up with the How to Train Your Dragon series. There is a set narrated by David Tennant and another narrated by Gerard Doyle. When I went to buy the first two books some time ago, the Tennant ones weren't available so I bought the Doyle versions which were fine. Now they are gone and the Tennant ones are on sale. I still have my Doyle ones but they don't seem to be on the site anymore that I can see. I assume it is one of those regional availability things.
Doyle was the original narrator. Then around book 5-6 Tennant came in, but the books were abridged (really silly given how short the stories are). Then some came unabridged, and we started getting those. Shortly thereafter they disappeared all together with a statement dealing with rights. Now he's back with the unabridged. Maybe they went back and recontracted and updated the books. Not complaining at all. My boys are happy to see them back!
It is odd how some of the books come and go. I've noticed it mostly with British recordings.

So do these books stay for as long as you need them, and you maintain your subscription? Does it equate to audible in a sense? Those Draw Write Now books intrigue me. I'd not seen them before, and might be what is needed to help with penmanship here

So glad to see How to Train Your Dragon back! My boys loved these, especially after David Tennent started narrating.

My parents used to make me wear doctor prescribed inserts when I was younger. My feet NEVER got used to them and the pain I had wearing them was awful. (This went for well-supported shoes too.) The last few years, I actually learned that my feet are flat and meant to stay flat! The cheaper and flatter the shoe, the better, for me. This just to say, it may be something that just isn't meant to be.

I'm going to start using Prego, I think I have 6th edition. I've not been able to find an instructor's guide, but the resource and testing book has the answers for the text and workbook, just not the tests that are in that book. :confused1: I just bought a "very good" used workbook and am hoping for the best, it was five bucks as opposed to the $50 for a new one. I'm going to try to make that work. We also have Rosetta Stone and Duolingo. Going to make this work somehow. I'm not an Italian speaker, but am familiar with the language. Guess we'll see. The way I see it, I have four years to get him to pass the SAT 2 to meet his two year requirement. :willy_nilly:

Way to go! I need to get my son to clean up his books.

You'd know the sandwich guy. He used to be in Pinetamare, but then relocated when the support site opened. Amazing sandwiches! Last I heard, I thought someone said he'd retired. Aldo is also amazing. He's a walking encyclopedia and no two tours are the same. Enjoy your time there and get out to see things--Naples can be really depressing otherwise.
-
Sounds like it's going well. Have to ask, is the "sandwich man" still there?
Good luck with the rest of the fund raising and go take a tour with Aldo. (He's still there too, isn't he?)

I learned more about World War II from Herman Wouk and Leon Uris than any history book. Winds of War and War and Remembrance are amazing--good miniseries too.
For earlier history, I've really been enjoing Cornwell's Anglo Saxon series.
Need to follow this thread for more suggestions. LOVE historical fiction.

Not a book, but some information, and not just on the Korean War. This is one of my kids' favorite museums.

My son will be doing two classes at the high school and maybe tennis. He's not very competitive but enjoys the sport. Curious to see how it turns out.

But Bill and Ted is "educational"

With the time difference, we got the games recording. Hope to watch the first tonight. 😃

 :scared: You don't know????? Characters from the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.

Yay! I can always use more.

I preordered over the weekend, but then started Echo in the Bone again, so although it's on the kindle waiting, I think I'll finish rereading Echo. Although I can't wait to see how she tied up all those loose ends! I've been reading since just before Voyager was released and she thought there'd be just six books.

I was wondering too, are you on one drive or whatever it's called now? Hope you can retrieve the info.

I'm ecstatic that we will be moving into a 1900 sqft house. We are four in 1400 right now and have really outgrown it. Doesn't help that it's not laid out well. My friend just moved their family of three into 700sqft. Way too small for me!

What airline are you taking? That can make a huge difference. For us, the iPads have been worth their weight in gold. No excuses for not having anything to do given the amount of games, movies, and books you can put on them. That said, once my kids are on the plane, they usually just use the in-flight entertainment. (We prefer the Asian carriers where each seat has its own screen and the best customer service.) Snacks are a must, a water bottle that can be refilled is handy.

Reading the responses has truly been eye-opening to the whole other world that we live in here. I didn't think twice of allowing my 9 year old to go to the movies with his older brother. Now that he is ten and has an ID, he's able to go on and off base by himself even--which he has done. I am so grateful that I live in a country where none of these thoughts have ever entered my mind.

For a gold, you need 100% on all the tests attempted. We had one in our group get that this year. Two received silver--one of whom missed just one question on a subtest she didn't even need to do! it's a fun test and my kids enjoy it.
