How much time commitment is it when you do BJU online? What do you need to buy?
Ds11 is doing Apologia General Science now. He reads and does the notebook and the quizzes and tests by himself. But I don't know how much he retains. It is getting done and he never complains. I wonder if I should just let him use Apologia or switch to BJU online. I do want him to be challenged and have a good science foundation.
The videos are about 1/2 hour long. Quizzes and tests are mostly online although you need to input in class quizzes. In chemistry, I had to mark an essay portion of each test and to mark some lab work. The answer keys/rubrics were very easy to follow. The teachers do a very good job of review in class.
Whether or not the class takes more than 1/2 to 3/4 or an hour per day depends on your student. I'm anticipating science taking longer for ds10 since he takes a long time to learn vocabulary.
If the December special is the same this year, it costs $99 plus the text in the higher grades. Because these don't generally use the newest text, they can be found used cheaply. Lab equipment/dissection materials will be extra, but you'll need them regardless of which program you use.
That said I keep trying to order a used grade 8 text. Twice I've received volume B without A. I will soon have 1 volume A and three Bs. Wouldn't be so bad except I have exchange and and extra pickup fee that's non refundable.

I've used both with my older guys. They did Apologie for Gen. Science to Biology. Yes, they learned, but it was dry. We switched to BJU Chem for 11th grade. I far prefer the online courses. With a used text and the December sale, it was quite reasonable. I bought a bunch of science supplies, but I'll admit they didn't get used much. Ds16 tended to watch the demonstrations rather than doing most labs. I'm anticipating ds 11 getting far more use out of them. By high school, I wouldn't expect kids to be doing all kitchen experiments.
I taught BJU 5 and 6. For grade 7 and up, we'll use the online option.

Can you take her to an emerg with a psych unit? I realize the waits are long and not all dr.s are very sympathetic to these issues, but this girl needs some help. Around here, I've heard some great responses from ER.
A couple of alternatives: a walk in clinic may even be able to set up a referral although they're not likely to prescribe meds or going back to your GP and strongly requesting a referral.

Ugh. We're having the same problem with ds10 and CLE LA6. And he's used CLE all along. Actually it was his second go at the quiz when he almost got 70. We're about to start doing the lessons v-e-r-y c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y together until the marks start improving.
My older also used CLE at this level and didn't have any problems.
Sorry I don't have any great ideas for how to change the scenario. Hang in there.

Actually on thought, if you want 1 shade lighter than you have, pick a colour 2 shades lighter to get the desired shade. If it's 2 shades too dark, go 4 shades lighter. (It's a math question. Just find the average of the two and use that.)

For medium brown or darker, you must use one shade lighter than you want. This is a common problem resulting in the Elvira look.
That said, I'm not sure how to fix it. Hopefully someone will chime in.

Our oldest son will be bumped off our policy when ds 16 gets his license and only having 2 vehicles get too cumbersome for our family. Dh and I are primary drivers on a vehicle apiece, but dh also has a company vehicle so ds 18 is only insured as an occasional driver. Since both guys work, this could happen fairly soon.
Ds 18 just priced insurance for his own vehicle. It was 2.5 times as high as what he's currently paying - and he hasn't done anything wrong yet. Insurance would cost the value of a beater car per year. We've advised them to stick to our insurance as long as its workable.

Dh hides all his tools in his truck.
I have a Philips and a Robertson screwdriver hidden extremely well. I just added the nut driver that opens the washing machine to that spot.
You Americans don't know what you're missing with Robertson screwdrivers.

One of the advantages of having a family of guys, is that I can buy some things in hot pink - not that I like hot pink so much, but no one touches Mom's stuff. I hide batteries in my drawers with my underwear (and the dark chocolate) because no one would touch that spot. And I hide office supplies up high with only one of each left out. It helps.
The guys live in fear of my minimalists urges. One time I cleaned out a bunch of my son's treasures. It went okay until I had him help unload at the dump. He kept finding stuff to keep. LOL.
Haha. My younger two read this post over my shoulder. Now they know where the chocolate is. :glare:

After supper, for no longer than an hour, after chores, school and anything else that's happening is dealt with. You should see how fast the table is cleared around here.
I finally showed Stampy to the door. Just not the kind of guy I'd like them to hang out with too much.

Yes. We still use 7th grade, but I really don't like it as much as the lower grades. I really have to be on top of my game in telling my dd which pages to complete. It isn't intutive.
We've only just begun using 7th grade Grammar and Writing. One thing I've done with the worktext is write in exactly what needs completing and where to stop. For example, Day 5 will be at start of the day's work and Day 6 will be where to start the next day. When pages are out of order, I clearly label what needs doing in both places. I also mark where the tests are. This makes it quite user friendly for us.

I'm glad your son's doing well. Hopefully he'll be 100% with rehab.
Interesting observation about diclectin. There was a similar imbalance of boys vs girls just south of the chemical valley about that time.

Haha. My guy seems to think that anything from 20 years ago or more in either clothing or household stuff is just about perfect. Generally he will defer to me when I point out that he's in the wrong decade (gently).
The only time he's said much is if he really hated something, or if something was too attention getting. And he loves yoga pants too, but I won't wear them in public unless I'm exercising!

I can't seem to find anything official, but I've never had any problem bringing fruit into Canada. Taking it from Canada into the US can be a problem. The guards sometimes check to make sure we don't have food on the US side, but never the Canadian side.
I grocery shop in the US regularly.
And I agree with the ROM and the CN Tower. We were disappointed with the Science Centre. Science North in Sudbury was so much better.

Ooops. I sent you a pm too. While I'm glad the impostors will be gone, they likely thought we were a compulsively training group. LOL. And it looks like they're more into training than most of us. :rofl:
ETA: Would it make sense to post a public service announcement on the leader board mentioning who we are and what the recent changes are.

I've always just kept a calculator nearby to check. Sometimes we process a question differently than Saxon and I just know I have to spend the time with those. I just consider it part of the task.
ETA I'm pretty confident with math.

My ds 11 has been grilling for about a year now. Ds 10 is just starting. They have been taught how to safely light it and how to deal with flareups (call a bigger person). We actually have natural gas which is easier. Both have a healthy respect for fire and are just starting to get comfortable with lighting small bonfires. Neither will load the wood stove because it demands more strength and skill. One of the larger guys or an adult is usually nearby to make sure everything is as itès supposed to be. They only do hamburgers and hot dogs.

:grouphug: . I have a nephew with similar difficulties 2 years after losing his father. It has been very painful to watch. I'm sure you're on the right track with a male grief counselor and your other decisions. I'm glad your other son is with you both.
I don't have anything else to offer except to encourage you to keep keeping on and please don't hesitate to see someone yourself as you have needs. :grouphug:

I haven't used A&P, but I feel your pain with strange spellings. I have to tell my guys to spell colour, theatre, neighbour, centre, cheque etc. even though that's not how they're spelled in most books. :001_huh:I love having a British book for that reason. :001_smile:

No I don't need to teach anything myself. I have had to facilitate the odd activity, and mark the very odd item.
At the end of each chapter, we usually go over the review questions orally, but ds can do this independently if it's necessary. With my younger ds, I will have to do more rienforcement.
