  1. You've gotten some wonderful ideas and suggestions. I also wanted to throw out there that his learning style may be (probably is) different than the girls. A friend that also has twins went through 4 phonics programs before she found what she needed for both children. The first twin got it from the very first curriculum, but her son took much longer and many different goes at it. Hope you find what works for him and for all of you!

  2. We started using AinA this fall, and I'm enjoying it. The chapters are easy to do, and I appreciate the review questions (Although I'm sure I could come up with them myself. Just glad that I don't have to. One less thing, ya' know. :D) I really like their reader suggestions. I've added in some extra art projects here and there and extra chapter books which are slowing us down a bit, but I don't mind if we go into the summer or next school year.

  3. Sounds like AAS might have a lot larger cards or lots more, so maybe laminating would be too spendy for them.

     

     

    Yes, both actually... I believe there are 8 to a page. If I were going to use this with lots of kids, I might consider laminating the red, yellow and blue cards as they continue through all the levels. In levels 2 and 3 there are 200 spelling cards each, and they aren't used in multiple levels. I would not be inclined to do those.

  4. We are enjoying AAS, and I would highly recommend it.

     

    I was wondering if doing some more kinesthetic activities would help your daughter instead of purchasing and starting another curriculum. Having her spell her words while she's s jumping rope or spelling them out with pipe cleaners or pretzel dough or having her alternate standing and sitting as she says each letter. She may just need a little different sort of review. ~HTH

  5. We're just starting the mad dash right before leaving. I'm hoping it's just a phase. I have books and a couple little things in the car plus brainquest cards, tangoes and pen and notebook in my purse. So he already has alot of things, but he gets bored with them pretty quickly. He's allowed to bring 1 toy with him. It can't be one of the special things he sleeps with or have lots of pieces (he loves alphabet and number sets), and he has to bring it back in with him.

  6. I didn't do AAS until we'd finished the other, but we zoomed through the phonics b/c ds could already read. I just wanted to make sure that we were doing a little something everyday to cover the basics even if it was review.

  8. If it were my kid being clawed, I would insist on watching each class like a hawk and if that girl hurt anyone again I would let them know I was removing my child from the program and why.

     

    I would want to observe just to keep my child safe, but I would also let the director know that I was thinking of finding a different studio. In a business like this the real power is in your dollars. You might make more of an impact with the director (especially if more than one family speaks up), if s/he knows that you're considering going somewhere else if this continues. In this world of educating children, there's a real balance to be found between doing what's right for the children and families and paying the bills. The thing that might tip the scale is letting them know that they might be losing your tuition and maybe those of others in the class.
