  1. They are bible story based with plenty of humor. It's a bit on the cheesie-side, but I think it's witty at times. The music is unremarkable... bouncey kid kinda music. The Fabulous Bentley Brothers contribute videos for the first 6 or 8 episodes. You can check those out on Youtube. There have been a few things that we disagreed with doctrinally, but for the most part we've liked how Phil handles the tricky stuff. In reference to the creation story, he explains that the word day can be taken literally or figuratively and expounds on that a bit. I thought it was a fair discussion of the topic and showed some respect for the kids. ~hth

  2. I think some of the pictures are nice, but it seems like such a waste.

I hadn't heard of this either so went off to google it. The second link I clicked was a story about a bride that was drowned by jumping in a river with her long, heavy dress on. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/bride-drowns-during-trash-the-dress-photo-shoot-after-wedding-dress-drags-her-under-water/ How absolutely sad.

  3. I had planned on doing an official (structured and well-planned) curriculum for science and have been collecting books and hands on activities to go along with a year of life science. But I haven't used the curriculum yet. We just opened one of those here's how your body works books, and ds started talking about the skeleton. So we started there... reading picture books, playing an online game and doing projects that I found on Pinterest. When we finished up, we opened that same book, and ds picked muscles after perusing the table of contents. It's been pretty easy and laid back so far.

History kinda worked out the same way. I had all these grand plans for doing SotW with a fancy chart of all the books we would read and a list to request from the library a week ahead of time and with all the materials for the activities from the guide purchased and divided into ziplock bags according to chapter. HAH!! I already had a set of the Veritas Press history cards so we've been using that as our spine and just reading books (well the Bible so far) to support each card. When we finally get to things in SotW, we'll use that to read, do the map work and some of the AG things.

Both subjects are coming together quite easily, and ds just thinks we're playing around with it. Sorry if this was more than you were asking for. Typing it out makes it seem alot "more" than it really is. ~hth

  4. But we do still have books in our library and we are always buying new ones. Do I think books are going away? No. But if you look up stats on ebook purchasing vs. physical books, it is evident that ebooks are the present and the future.

Dh was reading something a while back about the folks at Amazon being shocked that last year's sales of paper books had dropped so dramatically and the enormous popularity of kindle/ebooks.

  5. There's a 3 book set starting with My Father's Dragon. Ds also likes The Boxcar Children series. Several that we read for Amer Hist also come to mind: The Cabin Faced West, The Courage of Sarah Noble and A Lion to Guard Us. They're all written well and have a strong narrative without alot of extraneous flourishes.

  6. We bought all of our Mac products refurbished and have been satisfied with the quality, no problems, etc. But we got a significant % off. If you are getting $100 for apps with the new purchase, that would make your net savings $50, correct? If that is the case, I would go ahead and purchase new.

My sentiments exactly... I have a refurbed iPod nano and iPad 2, and I'm happy with both, but new for $50 more. I'd totally spring for that. :D

  7. I bought the Pre-K teacher's manual used and used the pattern in the back and foamie paper from JoAnn's to make the the wooden letter pieces. A good friend got alot of use out of the stamp and see screen and the little chalk board.

There seem to be ALOT more products to choose from than when I started with ds a couple years ago. I can see where your confusion is coming from! Hope this helped. :)

  8. You didn't contact to confirm that he would be mowing so I don't believe that you do owe him. BUT I don't think that you made that clear to him once he showed up. As someone stated earlier, your statement could have been construed as a request to be billed. Sorry that you're stuck with this confusing situation. :001_unsure:

  9. P.S. Thanks again for listing that coupon code on the Proclick sale thread. I decided after that great deal to make the plunge.

Coupon code?? Proclick on sale?? Do tell! :D

I tore/cut the hardback cover off my FLL and then took it to Kinko's to have the glue and such cut off for $1.
