  1. Afternoon. I've been grilling most of the day, so I smell like smoke--applewood and mesquite to be precise. Working on some writing now and staring at two art pieces that I need to work on this week, and one to finish if I can. It's a lovely sunny day, and many of my tomatoes have sprouted. I'm considering trying to do some of the cherry tomatoes in hanging buckets this year for fun since they nearly all sprouted and I'll have extra to work with.
  2. Afternoon! I didn't get over here this morning due to cooking, but I'm at a nice stopping place for the moment. Today's goals: House: chores, grocery run School: none, but scheduled next week for our spring break Cooking: steaks, broccoli, strawberries and cream, smoked brisket for tomorrow (done today as bad weather is set to move in for the week) Gardens: check seeds, seedlings Writing: journal, revisions, drafting Extra: no art today, but working on paintings and some sketches today
  3. Morning. Looks like a lot going on in here that I missed! Heading out to the river to commune with the water, the wind, and probably the pollen.
  4. Morning! Debated even posting because I wasn't sure I'd even get back here this week. But I got done with most of my work week, and have a few days off. Today's plan: House: chores Cooking: chicken alfredo, noodles, cauliflower Gardens: water containers, check seeds School: day off, driving practice Writing: journal, revisions and drafting (double work today), working on a book trailer this morning. Extra: go to the river
  5. I remembered to post the thread! Considering I'm not even really truly awake yet, that's something! I'm going to be largely absent this week due to having a lot of work, but should be more present at the end of the week. Today's goals: House: chores, maybe a little targeted cleaning Cooking: taco meat, make dessert cream to go with strawberries Gardens: water containers School: art today Writing: journal, one chapter to revise, another to draft
  6. EDPO: Avert ye eyes! I'm planning the last summer term of homeschool. So far, we have continue Trigonometry, some format writing practice, some Latin translation (I'm thinking of doing something interesting for translation), and an intensive study of a topic in science or history with the goal of completing a paper in each by August. I've asked the boys to choose their topics because that will be more entertaining and interesting.
  7. Morning. My least favorite time of the year has arrived. I expect to be in a mess over it until fall. It's the way I'm made, I guess. My internal clock refuses to reset.
  8. Morning. It's bright, sunny, and cool, but today is the last nice day this week, I think. Today's goals: House: chores Gardens: water containers (see last nice day) Cooking: beef stew and I might make cornbread School: usual, driving lessons Writing: journal, revisions, drafting Extra: errands in town
  9. I need a warning before I get on here and it's all Ed-Po. LOL. I'm trying to relax today. Got a long, hard weekend coming up, and next week looks equally stressful. So today's the only day I have to rest. Naturally, I've got all sorts of stuff to do instead of resting.
  10. Morning. Bright and sunny and cool. I think we are looking at snow and ice again this weekend. I really hope that's the last of it. Today's goals: House: chores, do some decluttering. Cooking: make beef stroganoff with pasta, baked potatoes, broccoli School: usual, driving practice Gardens: water orchids (going to do the large containers on Thursday when it's a little warmer (before the snow and ice day) Writing: journal, revise one chapter, draft another, query stuff, writers' meeting
  11. Morning. I have no opinion on pigs-in-blankets or kolaches or monkey-gut soup. Am making chili for dinner. It turned cold again. I guess third winter is here. We had a pretty strong tornado come through, but it passed us west and north, thankfully. Other than that, it's cold, I'm tired despite sleeping well, and I've got all sorts of things to get done on this Monday!
  12. A day late, but I made it. Yesterday was busy! Today's goals: House: chores, some cleaning Gardens: check containers for watering School: usual Cooking: chili Writing: journal, revisions, drafting Extra: planning out how to handle the rest of the next two weeks, which will be considerably busy. But it looks like the last half of the month and even into April won't be so wild.
  13. Morning. It's warm and sunny (meaning it's not freezing and headed up to the mid 70s today) so I opened windows. The cats are beside themselves with bird frenzy. I'm suffering from spring fever, and therefore put seed starter mix in my shopping cart to buy this weekend, and the boys are going through the seed catalogs to finalize their choices. I may or may not have researched sources for scented geraniums for my front porch because I love them and haven't had them in many years. I pollinated lemons yesterday, and had a brain wave about how to pot them up as the trees get bigger. It won't be pretty, but it will work. Last year we had a harvest of six Meyer's lemons and they were so good! I'd love to be getting twenty or thirty from each tree one day.
  14. Morning. It was a long day yesterday. Hoping to relax some today, but there's a lot to do here, too. Goals: House: chores, some beginning spring cleaning. Cooking: comfort food day--I'm frying some fish and chicken strips. School: none--headed to the lake later Gardens: refine seed list, locate some seed-starting mix Writing: journal, style sheet, continue drafting new project, one chapter in the revision project Extra: lake
  15. Morning! Work tomorrow, so today I'm trying to catch up on some things and set some March writing goals. House: chores Gardens: finish watering all the containers for the week (it's supposed to be quite nice later this week, so I may be able to allow some plants more sunlight and fresh air) Cooking: baked potato with fixings School: usual and driving training Writing: some new drafting, continue working on my style sheet (almost done), revising another project, one query, writers' meeting.
  16. Morning. It's sunny today and nice. Still cleaning up stuff from the ice storm outside, though.
  17. Morning. I got through a lot of yesterday's list, but not everything. Did most of my reading, though, and the cooking, school stuff, and browsed garden catalogs. Today's Goals: House: chores, clean the bathroom and bedroom (open windows today? It's possible) Cooking: braised brisket, bread and butter, fresh strawberries (but no cream because all of that got eaten yesterday), roasted cauliflower? It could happen. Gardens: Get the big containers outside for sunshine, watering, and a plant bath. Pollinate more lemons. School: regular, some scheduling, drivers training--recently, the boys got added to the insurance, so now they may drive on the big roads. Lots of excitement over that. My hair hasn't all fallen out. Yet. Writing: finish up the last of the reading, finish the style sheet for one project, some queries possibly (might wait until tomorrow for that) Journaling.
  18. Morning. I'm up getting some things done, but there are many things left to do. That said, I took several extra minutes to cuddle the kitten this morning because she wanted cuddles and as I wake up stressed these days (and I didn't used to be this way), a morning cuddle with a kitten seemed a restful thing to do. I haven't decided if I'm giving up anything for Lent or not. I was thinking instead about giving myself time--like time to go for a walk, time to plant the garden seeds, time to paint, time to pet the kitten, time to read. I know that's about opposite of what's supposed to happen, but if I give myself time for the good things, I'm taking time away from the bad things--too much doomscrolling, too much worrying, too much working so hard I don't take time to relax, etc.
  19. Morning. It's dripping. We only lost around four trees in the ice storm, which was frankly amazing. It could have been much worse. No cleaning up yet, other than cutting one vehicle out of the tree that fell on it (it was a small one, so the truck wasn't hurt--the tree may not recover, though, which is sad). I need to work on some cooking today, and try not to fall into the trap of cooking too much comfort food. Looking at seeds for spring planting. It's about time to start a few things.
  20. Morning! I got the month right--hoping that March isn't January round 3. Today's goals: House: chores, cleaning schedule Cooking: baked chicken breasts with a glaze of some kind, rice, broccoli, strawberries for dessert Gardens: still browsing seed catalogs School: none, but I need to put the schedules and history stuff together, art this afternoon. I also need to work on transcript stuff this week, so I need to schedule time for that. Writing: journal, continue a style sheet for one project, reading two books, but nothing for fun yet. But I have one on my bedside table that's a fun one.
  21. Morning. I still have power. I don't know how. We've got four trees down in the yard and one landed on a vehicle (thankfully, it was a small tree and didn't break anything). The cleanup is going to be a mess. DH did get out of the driveway and reported the main roads are okay, but getting to them was tough. Hoping for some major melting and drying today. Other than that, I'm tired, I still ache a bit from the muscle driving, and there's not a lot of food or ingredients for food in the house, but I do think I've got enough stuff to make some biscuits! So it's going to be a lot of scrounging until the grocery run on Sunday.
  22. Still have power. We've got a number of trees down that will need cleanup once the ice melts. Today's goals: House: chores School: usual Cooking: it's pretty slim pickings around here, so mostly we'll scrounge. Gardens: none Writing: journal. Revisions are done, but I'm still assembling a style sheet, so I'll work on that. It's time for a nice weekend of reading!
  23. Morning. I'm surprised I can say that. We still have power. Yesterday started out like a regular work day and ended in an ice storm. So today means we aren't going anywhere. House: chores, as long as power holds School: usual, as long as power holds Gardening: start longingly at the garden seeds and contemplate baby tomatoes and peppers Cooking: well, we'll see what we get in the way of power. I might make some bacon for sandwiches early, just in case. Writing: email some stuff--again, the whole power thing...
  24. Morning. I'm surprised we have power, there's that much ice. I got to drive in it yesterday to get home (we weren't supposed to get it and instead got centerpunched) and that was so much fun I'm still sore from clenching muscles way too tight. Not going anywhere until Saturday, when the stuff is melted.
