  1. My two 2nd graders use Wordly Wise Book 2. I like that they learn the meaning of words in a context and see the use of the word in a sentence, rather than in a stand alone manner. To reinforce the lesson and before they do the exercises, they also do the corresponding lesson online at http://www.wordlywise3000.com/
  2. Last week I covered Chapter One in the Diversity book of MPH 3/4, and my girls enjoyed it. They liked the pictures and diagrams in the book. They understood the material, and I did not do any of the activities because of time constraints. They were able to answer the first set of questions from the MPH 3/4 homework book on their own. Hope this helps.
  3. Yes, I had to memorize addition facts, and multiplication tables in 2nd grade.
  4. I let my girls select the books they wish to read, and they read independently. In the evenings, my husband usually asks questions about the story, up to the part they've reached, as a check to make sure they've understood what they've read.
  5. My girls turned 7 in Nov and started reading some books from this series back in Sept. They've read and enjoyed Heidi, Anne of Green Gables, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, Five Little Peppers, Black Beauty.
