  1. Each lesson in the lower levels have 3 pages of work that is specific to that lesson, and then 3 sheets of work that is cumulative for the series to that point.  (so 3 new pages and 3 review pages)  They also have a worksheet generator on their website should you need extra work.  The basic idea is that they either watch the DVD or you do and then teach the lesson to them. Then they do as many of the first 3 worksheets as needed to get the concept down, so sometimes 1 sheet, sometimes 2, sometimes all 3 and then you do the 3 review sheets, and finally the test.  Each lesson in the new version also has an enrichment sheet which is usually a fun type page to help go over a certain concepts that have been learned in the past.

I have used Saxon, CLE, McRuffy and Teaching Textbooks over the years for my kids, but this year went to all MUS across the board.  We backed up a level to get them up to speed and I'm testing them through it and filling in the gaps that way.  MUS has been great so far.  The blocks really help my kids to "See" the math, just like they are supposed to.

  2. I was one of those that was abruptly fired with little explanation.  I started the 26th of June.  I increased my percentages, but in the end all they would say was that it wasn't high enough.  There was no real training when I started, just a "hey you should check out this webinar" and that was it.  Nothing required.  I did my best watched the webinars and like others mentioned it was hard to sometimes understand just what they wanted. Then there were times where 1 webinar presenter would directly contradict another in a subsequent webinar.  I was paid for all the work I did, but honestly in the end I'm glad to be done with it.  It's mind numbingly boring at times.

  3. That's a hard decision to make.  When we had to decide with our dog it was easier because she had some sort of internal bleeding/tumor.  It was still hard, but easier than it would have been if in your situation.  I agree with those that said $600 seems like a huge deal for both and emergency and regular vet.

Back in Dec we found out our 8 year old cat had no hip socket and he had surgery to fix it to the tune of $1300.  We too used care credit for that, and then when the same cat got an infected tooth that had to be extracted we had the Care Credit to use.  A few months later our pug had to have a lot of dental work (have you ever tried to brush the teeth of a dog with no snout to hold onto, it's hard) again the car credit was a real relief to have.

  4. Everyone in my family has a different favorite color so I got a place setting for each of us in that color.  My husband has plum, I have sunflower, My oldest has shamrock, my daughter has peacock, and my youngest has scarlet.   We also have a white set, a black set, a tangerine set and a turquoise set for company.  I love it.  When you open my cupboard it's like a rainbow inside.

  5. I agree a professional fitting at a lingerie shop is a must.  No dept store has ever fit me right.  Lane Bryant said I was a 40D.  I'm actually a 34J, yeah that's a bit of a difference, and just try to find one at a local store.
I bought one each of 2 different bras from the shop and then bought more from Amazon.  They are 2 years old and still going strong.  I finally look like I have 2 boobs instead of one.  It also made me look thinner instantly because the girls were actually up where they belonged.

I pay about $50 through Amazon (I agree the Panache TangoII is awesome, I also like their Melody) Well worth it.

I mean if I'm going to have to buy 5 ill fitting bras a year from walmart for $12 each, isn't it a better deal to get one bra for $50 that will last 2+ years.  Inexpesive doesn't always come out to be cheaper in the long run.

  6. I have no report for this week as my oldest had d weird rash we had to deal with on Monday, Tuesday was appointment day and then Wed I got some weird virus that has caused me to have vertigo and I can't move around or I'm super dizzy.  I realized that I forgot to post our week 1 review on that thread though.  So you can go to my blog to check that one out.

  7. One thing to remember is how the company chooses to ship things.  Not all mail has the same status in the pecking order.  If it was sent via media mail, then it can sit if the mail is heavy with other types of packages such as priority etc.  Plus in this day of high gas prices, they want to make sure trucks are full so your box may make a little journey before starting to head west, so the truck is full.

  8. WOW!  Shipping has doubled since I placed my order for AAR 2.  It was already high, but now it's $40 to ship to Canada.  Ouch!!!  I really, really, really wish they'd find a more economical way to ship product.  No order for me today. :(

I don't know that there is one.  I've got friends up there, and there is no cheap way to ship to Canada that I've found.

It's actually cheaper for me to ship things to a friend in Australia.  Not sure why.

  9. Thanks for the info.  I think we'll stick with the phoenix worms, from the sources I have found they fat isn't that much more than a silkworm and they are easy for us to get.  We get the 1000 count zoocup from phoenixworms.com for about $39.  My daughter uses her allowance to pay for them.

Forgot to say we don't have access to a mulberry tree and I'm not sure about raising silkworms.

  10. That sounds like a lot of worms...what would happen if you put only crickets in the tank for a couple days?

He simply won't eat, we tried it, and he just won't eat, he's held out for a 3 day hunger strike.  We're both fine with him eating the worms, we hated dealing with the crickets.  These worms aren't huge, their medium Phoenix worms so they slightly shorter than the diameter of a penny.  She gets them for a good price as we buy the 1000 worm zoo pack for about $39 and they've lasted fairly well.  She's got about 250 left and we got them a month ago.  Some days he's eating about 40, other days he's a darn pig.

I just wasn't sure if we needed to push the veg more, but it sounds like he may be fine.

  11. Well, we've had Spock for about 3.5 months now.  He's about double in size, not quite a foot long yet.  He's doing well.  Annika takes him out for about 20 minutes a day to just hang out.  I'm still a little concerned about his eating though.  He absolutely won't eat crickets, which we're fine with as we hate having to keep them.  He loves phoenix worms though and has been on a steady diet of those since about a week after we got him.  He eats anywhere from 40-80 medium ones a day.  Is that too many?  We do offer him a salad of collards and/or Kale with some zuchhini and some sort of fruit (very small amount on the fruit usually less than 1/2 tsp) every day, but he just doesn't really eat much of it.

We know they are supposed to switch to more veg than protein over time, but aren't sure when.  He's actually gotten quite spoiled and doesn't eat much of his "salad" unless my daughter hand feeds it to him while he's hanging out with her on her bed.  Even then it's usually just 2-3 leaves about 1cm square.  Is that enough?

Here's a picture of him with her so you can see his size.

  12. I will admit I haven't read every response, but the app is not just a tile app, all of the words for a level are pre-built for you making it quicker to get through parts of the lesson.

You do NOT need to buy levels lower than where you are, each level is totally complete for that level.

When I started Barton with my daughter last spring I didn't think she needed level 1 because she'd been working on another O-G program.  I emailed Susan, and she sent me the post-test for levels 1-3 to see where the best place for my daughter to start would be.  When I decided on level 2 just to make sure a few things were really mastered Susan called me personally and said she was including the level 1 discs at no charge so that I could watch them in addition to the level 2 discs so I would really understand the program.

When I bought the app (we're in level 3) I requested being able to buy levels 1 and 2,  I hadn't bought level 1 from them but had picked it up from a friend because I had thought of maybe tutoring.  Susan emailed me saying that I hadn't bought it from them and when I emailed back saying I'd gotten it from a friend she just unlocked that buying option for me.  No picture was required.

I can see how the app would be best for tutors managing many students, but it sure comes in handy for my daughter as it takes us so much less time to set up and reset between words etc.  I can really see how as we add more tiles it will become more and more convenient.

  13. Ummm, I don't.  I said as much if you read my first post.

Sorry, but I was there when people who are saying they don't know why this would be labelled a gossipfest were there & I have a very difficult time believing they missed all the brouhaha.

Like I said, if it has changed, great.  Your hostility towards me is misplaced.

I'm not hostile,  I'm amused.  Especially at your response to swellmomma's response to bethany

  14.

In this particular group there was a file that you had to add your name to followed by your WTM screen name.

I know, right?  (It's fun to think of how many people just cringed from that phrase)

Seriously?  You know all about this FB group?  You said in your own post you were only there "a few weeks" when it first started.

How do you have any clue what it's like now?

I've been there 9 months, and it's not a WTM bash fest or gossipfest either.  Yes sometimes topics from here will be taken over there because it's not ok to talk about them here.  Sometimes that's because they are too personal or they go against the board rules or would if the topic followed the current path it was starting to take.

I was there during all the things that seems to have formed CSL's opinion of the group and still don't understand why she's so hostile toward it.  We all have groups in our life that we belong to, be it a group of friends, an online forum, a co-op etc.  They evolve over time.  Sometimes they become a bad fit due to this evolution.  So you MOVE ON!

Like Jujsky mentioned, we talk about our kids, worries we have about the upcoming school year, curriuculum, when our spouses are acting like idiots and need a place to vent.  Mostly we joke around and have fun.

  15. I'm on the list ZooRho mentioned too.

I live in Chesapeake (the Great Bridge area) so I'm not all that far from NC. No way I would move to NC. Living where we do it takes DH 45-1hr to drive home from Norfolk Naval Station if it's any time after 1600 when he leaves. He's now in Newport News at the shipyard and the travel time isn't much different. I64 is a nightmare at certain times of the day. My dh leaves at 4:30am so he doesn't get stuck in the crazy gate traffic in the morning when going to Norfolk.

  16. I just finished my season of little league today. I don't have a problem with kids that have conflicts with other commitments or illness/injury, but PLEASE let me know. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to a coach who has rules to follow, like every player has to play every position and can't be in the same one more than 2 innings in a row, when people just don't show up with no warning. It's not as easy as you'd think to make adjustments on the fly and make sure everyone gets equal opportunity at each position.

I had one boy that only showed up to 2 games out of 16, and his mom emailed 2 weeks ago to find out what day I'd have his trophy. Um it's a participation trophy, he didn't participate!

We don't keep score in our division, in our league, I had no problem getting my kid motivated to run or things because of that. This division is about learning the positions and the rules of the game.

I think 8 kids is a pretty light roster. I have to have 10 on the team at minimum. How do you play with only 4 on the field? If we didn't have enough from one team show up you borrow players from the other team, as long at between the two teams 12 kids show up you're good to go. I had 14 kids on my team.

If your league finds it's having a lot of no shows or absences, they might need to increase the number of players on the team. When I helped coach tee ball we had 14 kids on the team, and every one was always on the field, nobody say. That's means you double up for many positions.

  17. We're almost at the end of our 7th year of homeschooling and I can say that we've had a lot of flops over the years,

My top ones have to be

Barton Reading and Spelling (yes it's expensive, but my 11 year old daughter is finally starting to read well now that we're using this program, I love it so much I'm planning on starting my own tutoring business using it)

All About Spelling (well loved by both myself and my oldest son)

All about Reading (so glad this is finally out, I just wish it had been out when the above daughter was first learning to read)
