  1. Looking for experiences with CLRC Chemistry class. We need to do accredited courses for our personal long term goals, so I'm down to CLRC and Veritas Press Academy. Veritas Press seems too intimidating. Considered Wilson Hill, but not sure I like the Novare book for Chemistry. Looking for a solid Chemistry course, not for someone who wants to pursue Chemistry as an interest, but who is interested in Biology and will require a solid Chemistry foundation for some advanced Biology classes later if that makes sense. So as much as I'd like to lighten up her load and pick an easier class, really looking for a class with manageable workload yet that covers all the basics, calculations, etc that go with a rigorous Chemistry course. From CLRC description, I'm not sure if their class is more of a "check the box" or real prep. Any experiences you can share are much appreciated.
  2. Did you end up signing up for this teacher’s class? Any feedback?
  3. @saw, I looked at it spec for the IB programme because my daughter thinks she wants to study in Europe and it’s just a more straightforward approach then figuring out what to do with a diploma for a homeschooler, AP vs non AP, etc. everyone knows IB. But the price tag is just too high and we won’t qualify for aid. I’d love to hear your experience anyway just in case I change my mind in 2 years when it’s time to make a decision. Thank you
  4. @Roadrunner @Farrarthanks for your feedback. To me personally the knowledge that students actually acquire is so much more important then whether they have an AP score or not. But I have to consider the bureaucracy in admissions just out of practical considerations. Especially because mine is thinking she wants to study in Europe and they do want APs. I think it’s their only way to evaluate a US applicant @Roadrunner out of curiosity, I see you are a big proponent of SOHS. I understand that one of your children went to SOHS and another one didn’t? So you can compare the outcomes and how it served them in admissions? Thank you!
  5. @Farrar, what are your thoughts about OHS canceling AP courses? I almost just want to do some of their unique courses and take APs elsewhere. Not sure if universities really would just assume the course was AP worthy because of the name of the school? I hear a few private schools are phasing them out
  6. I saw this thread while looking up the schedule for next year on hscollege bound site. I didn’t see geometry so I wondered if Diane decided not to run it. My daughter is trying out one of the intensive science courses this winter and she loves loves Diane, says she just explains things clearly and my daughter is paying attention the whole time (and we all understand how tough it is to not drift into your own little world while teacher on screen is taking). I print out note taking sheets and read post class emails that Diane sends out and it looks like a well thought out class and they cover a lot. We don’t know what we are doing for next year yet, but I asked my daughter if she would consider Diane for Geometry and that’s a strong consideration. So I was checking the schedule and didn’t find geometry in it. I am hoping that Diane’s o other classes are as effective as intensives. Even if geometry is not an option, I’m thinking Biology if schedule permits.
  7. Looking for feedback on WHA language arts, possibly even teachers. For now what would work is a class with Althage. Question is, do students really improve their writing? We took Expository Writing at WTMA and actually daughter really liked it, but since it’s her last year of middle school, I’d like her to tighten up her grammar. Looks like FOEW does have a grammar aspect, so is it too good to be true that it’s an effective course to cover composition and grammar and some great literature? Private message ok if that’s more convenient
  8. Hi! have you received any comments on this? also on the fence with Ms. Krejci since there are no teaching samples
  9. Wanted to check if there is any more feedback on expository writing teachers a year later?
