I agree with gardenmom5. I've told my 9 year old daughter countless times to not leave her ipad around the house/floor. If this same situation happened, I would explain to the other parent that the event would not have occurred if my daughter was more responsible with her items and put it up where it belonged. I'd then explain that this is not the first time she has been careless with it and it was just a matter of time when something bad would happen. To me it's more a teaching moment for my daughter than a penalty for the person/animal that broke the ipad. But I definitely understand about wanting to offer some sort of help in resolving. Maybe a good compromise would be to buy a itunes gift card for $25 or so if they do end up fixing it. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!
