  1. This sounds yummy. I agree with the hashtag. I'm cooking lentil stew in a similar fashion for dinner tonight. No browned burger, though. I use crumbled up leftover meatloaf.
  2. I've never had this. What exactly is in it? I made meatloaf. It disappeared before I could get a second slice.
  3. Yes! I made cake mix cookies again. They're addictive. Oh, and I found a can of pringles that I forgot were hidden up on the high shelf in the pantry.
  4. Oldest has read this multiple times now and likes it. I didn't realize there's a movie. I get some of the best ideas here and then DH thinks I'm super creative. Lol
  5. This. Yes, I'm talking to myself now because there's nobody here but me.
  6. Guess who's almost finished reading Soft Rain? This could have something to do with 3 new books arriving in the mail yesterday that he's not allowed to read until he finishes.
  7. Guess I'm asking for age appropriateness. No romance, swearing, or graphic violence. His favorites are Tom Sawyer, Om-kas-toe , Summer of the Monkeys, My Side of the Mountain, The Captain's Dog, By the Great Horn Spoon, The Great Turkey Walk, and every book he's read by O'Steele. He's read all of these many times.
  8. Why is this linked instead of showing in your post? I rarely click on links. Whoops! Just read further down and see you're having upload issues. Sorry.
  9. EdPo: Johnny Tremain or Yankee Doodle Boy? This is for Oldest. 4th grade.
  10. I have a love/hate relationship with Amazon. I love that I can look up reviews on books I'm interested in for Oldest, but then it shows me other books I may be interested in and..... Down that rabbit hole I go. Every book I look at makes me feel like this: And then eventually I either give up or have a lightbulb moment that sounds a lot like Mr Wizard's, "Hmmm, Ah HA!" in my head. 😂
  11. Oops. Good morning. School to commence soon. Oldest is voicing his opinion about not wanting to read the only book left in the house that he hasn't read yet: Soft Rain. Something tells me he'll get bored and read it by the weekend. 😉
  12. There is so much going on here, I cannot decide what reaction I should have. Trophies for nirthday, fingers crossed for an instant pot cheesecake because this sounds AWESOME, or sad because puppy isn't feeling well.
  13. @Critterfixer I stumbled onto this that I copied last year from you. It still resonates with me today. Thank you for your words of wisdom. Reassure your son that "failed quizzes" are not a sign of failure. They are simply saying that he's got things to learn, and that's fine. Don't panic. It's okay. It's not unusual to struggle more at the outset of something new, and it's not abnormal to "not get it" when the concepts are fairly new, and/or involve things that haven't been previously mastered. It's also (sadly) not uncommon for a young man at a certain age to struggle with recall of things that they absolutely "knew" the day before. Remember to spend lots of time reassuring your guys that their brains aren't broken, simply short-circuiting at times, and they will get through this if they are patient and willing to "relearn" things when they need to. --Critterfixer 12/18/2019
  14. Oldest read Early Thunder by Fritz today. He really enjoyed it which surprised me based on some of the Amazon reviews I had read before buying it. It led to some great discussion between him and DH.
  15. I cannot squeeze Newbie's sweet chubby thighs into a 12 month fleece sleeper. He's not even 4 months old yet. All clothes must be stretchy or they just don't fit. 😂 #stretchorbust
  16. Yep. My grandfather gave up trying to fix his because the place where his birth certificate was filed burned in a fire years and years ago and there was no other record of his birth. He just said the fact he was standing there oughta be proof enough that he was born. Lol
  17. And somehow, even knowing it's a holiday, it didn't occur to me not to go to the post office to mail a package and of course, they were closed. What is going on with me?!
  18. School went so well today that I'm wondering if Oldest is coming down sick or something. He says my math games make it more fun. Hurry, check his temperature.
  19. Delayed birth certificate? Is this like back in the day when everyone was born at home and the dr travelled through and recorded the births that had occurred while he was away? That's how it was for my grandparents. The dr actually filed paperwork with the wrong birthday for my grandpa and wouldn't you know that my grandpa passed away on a day between the two dates that are only a week apart. Caused quite a mess of paperwork.
  20. Somehow, I forgot to put these two things together this morning. Must not've had my coffee yet. Oldest didn't figure it out, either. Thus, we are almost mid-schoolday.
  21. Sorry I'm so late seeing this. I admit I don't know what a hot plate is, but a crockpot is absolutely doable. Chicken and dumplings, mac n cheese, roast with veggies, chili, meatballs in sauce, loaded potato soup..... I don't know you're family dietary restrictions or preferences, though.
