  1. I can't remember everything I have read and don't want to quote too many people so I am going to wing it with what I do remember:

--Love that CA is teaching cursive.  My kids all learned it and it has bothered me for years that it wasn't being taught.   I believe it is an important skill.

    --Cake over pie, always.

--The 80s did have the worst of everything: music, movies, fashion.  It was a "blech" decade in every way.

--I am not a fan of tattoos.   They don't age well and all of them, in my opinion, end up looking tacky and messy.

--Never have I seen a movie that was better than the book.  Books rule every time!

--Cheesecake is wonderful, call it whatever you want, it is delicious and perfect.

    --Cilantro is so so good.

--Not a fan of either Star Trek or Star Wars (to the horror of my Star Wars loving kids).

  2. I think the thing I want to stress is that grandparents can live close by and have next to no relationship with their grandchildren and others can live far away and be very close.  The wonderful thing about the internet era is that it provides so many wonderful ways to stay in touch.   My children grew up with both sets of grandparents living less than 40 min away and none of them were interested in being involved in the kids' lives.   Growing up my grandparents lived across the country and went out of their way to be involved and show love to their grandchildren.   I am positive that you will be a loving involved grandparent and your grandchildren will know you and love you just as much as you know and love them.  Being creative, flexible, and having a loving heart will ensure a fantastic relationship with them.

    Get out my Happy Light!

I have read on and off here for a couple of years about the Happy Light.   I am seriously considering getting one.  Is there one you recommend?  How did you decide to get one to begin with?  It is hard for me to tell if the light would help or is it just life is super hard or am I depressed.   I suspect it might be a mixed bag, in that case would the light be beneficial (I know you can't answer this for sure but I would love your opinion if you have one)?   I have considered making a post about this but am not quite comfortable doing that.

  4. @heartlikealion  I just want you to know how much I admire you.  You are so strong and level headed and have handled every setback with such grace and determination.  You really are amazing.  I hope that this job is just first of many many good things coming your way.  You deserve nothing but happiness and peace.

DD15 is getting both vaccines today. Is it worth it to drive out of town to get Pfizer instead of Moderna, due to potential side effects?

My side effects with Moderna lasted over 48 hours.

I know we are all different, but wanted to let you know that this is the first time teen and I had Moderna and we did well with it.  We have both had minor side effects from some of the Pfizer vaccines, not all.  We were both braced to deal with a few days of not feeling great since it was our first time with Moderna, but truly all was fine with zero issues.

This makes me curious if you’ve ever bought a previously lived in house before. Maybe my standards should have been higher, but a small area of dart holes on one wall is so minor in the realm of what has been normal for us in buying a house someone else has lived in. There is all kinds of cosmetic damage and that seems normal to us.

Yes, I have bought and sold several homes.

The pharmacist is mistaken, the doses for the newest XBB booster are the same as the previous boosters. Moderna = 50 mcg of mRNA for adults (12+) and 25 mcg for kids (6mos-11). Pfizer = 30 mcg for adults, 10 mcg for 5-11, and 3 mcg for 6mos-4.

Also, Pfizer and Moderna do not have "the same ingredients," they use different adjuvants, which may be part of the reason for the stronger reaction with Moderna.

Here is a screenshot from the updated dosage chart from the American Academy of Pediatrics, you can see the full dosage information by age if you click the link.

Thank you so much for the correct information.  I appreciate it.  You went to a lot of trouble to get the correct information to us.   I do wonder what made the pharmacist think they were the same (rhetorical question since we will never know)?  I didn't ask her if they were, this is information she volunteered.

I don't think all buyers should be nitpicky to the degree that @DawnM's buyers have been. These people have been over the top with their demands.

Would you really want someone who was buying your own home to be as picky as they want to be? I sure wouldn't, and I would never treat a seller the way these buyers have treated Dawn.

I think buyers deserve to know exactly what they are buying and that sellers should be honest, but buyers also need to realize that they are not buying a brand new home, and if they want everything to be flawless, they should probably not buy a house that anyone else has ever lived in, because there are always issues, even in a high end home that has been well cared-for. (And let's be honest -- there are flaws in new builds, too.)

I would never dream of behaving the way Dawn's buyers have. I can understand wanting major issues repaired, but I also think there are limits to what is a reasonable request, as well as to how many requests are reasonable to make. And in this case, Dawn discovered the dart holes at the last minute, so if I was her buyer, I would be understanding about it, especially because none of their many home inspectors discovered the holes, either. It sounds like Dawn already did a lot of work to please these people, so I don't think one little thing like this should be a deal breaker.

I mean, in an ideal world, Dawn or her dh would have had time to make the repair or call someone in to do it, but on the last day before closing, when she's racing around to get everything out of the house and moved elsewhere while also working a full-time job and keeping track of all four of her kids' possessions (and also keeping her little 5yo entertained,) I think it would be very kind of the buyers to overlook this one little thing. I would, wouldn't you?

I do understand what you are saying.  But I am also keeping in mind that we are only hearing one side of the story.  There are always 3 sides (each person's side and then the truth which usually lies in the middle).   In my opinion the buyers haven't been that bad (and again, we are only getting one side of the story).    As for whether I would be okay with the dart holes as the buyer, I truly don't know.  I would have to see them to be able to give an informed opinion.    As the seller though, I would absolutely make an attempt to repair them, at least minimally or I would come clean at closing.   As for it being kind of the buyers to overlook them, again it would depend on how bad the holes are.

Really? How did I miss this? I've been assuming that Moderna still had a larger dose than Pfizer. Now I need to go find that info. And even more so for kids, where the Pfizer dosages were tiny and not as effective.

I was surprised too.  She just said that this is the first time they were the same and contained the same ingredients.  Definitely do your research especially if you are having a child get it.  She also said that they only had Moderna.  It seems like Moderna is far more widely available that Pfizer, but I have no idea why.

  10. Teen and I got ours Monday.  Teen also got a flu shot at the same time (same arm too!).  I had already had my flu shot.  We both have done well since then with no issues.    It is nice to have it completed.

Edit:  We both got Moderna.  This is the first time we have had Moderna.  The pharmacist did tell us that now Pfizer and Moderna are the same for the first time.

I would panic and fix the wall. Most likely the patch and paint.

This is what I would do.  I don't blame the buyers one bit for being nit picky!  All buyers should be that way and it is an admirable trait.  They are getting ready to sink a ton of money into their new home, they deserve to be as picky as they want to be!  Not fixing the wall isn't okay to me.

  12. This woman desperately needs to travel to OZ to see the Wizard about obtaining a heart.   What a mean heartless horrible person.

I am so very sorry that these other things are just making everything worse for you.

    C'mon up! 🙂

Just don't be like guy in a nearby town who moved there from away, rented an apartment right next to the historic church downtown, and tried to get the town to "turn off the church bells" because he couldn't sleep. 🤣. You might imagine stunts like that do NOT go over well. Unsurprisingly he was told no, the bells have rung since 1855 and if he doesn't like it he's welcome to leave, lol.

You really have no idea how much I want to.   Gosh I just can't figure out a way to make it happen.  Feel free if you have some wonderful idea on how I can, I will entertain all options.  And those church bells would lull me to sleep smiling every night.  Heaven, just heaven.

Not to derail the thread, but Maine is quite welcoming to newcomers, especially within 30 miles of the coast.

Within 30 miles of the coast would be perfect!   It just makes me homesick (even though I have never lived there) to hear how welcoming you are to newcomers.  Sigh...

She passed very peacefully last night.  She held on until both her parents and her sister had arrived and then went quietly, never waking up.

She chose, very specifically, a quiet life that emphasized her children and her few hobbies. Her mom and sister were career women(no slam; I put myself in that category) who never understood why she didn’t pursue a good job with her degree in microbiology, but instead worked part time when she wanted at places like a tea room or historical society.  Instead she devoted herself to her kids and to things she loved like canning and knitting, baking and reading and looking at fine art and advocating for a dog rescue.  Her mom and sister could not understand her at all but they remained close. She never once missed a soccer game(though she hated them) or a chorus concert.  It was exactly the life she wanted, even though I know they occasionally struggled financially in a HCOL area on just her husband’s salary. But now I am glad she never missed a moment with her children because we never imagined they’d have to finish growing up without her.

I am on my deck this morning watching the sun come up.  It is hard to grasp that the sun is rising in a world she no longer exists in.

I am very sorry.  Your tribute to her is beautiful.    She was way too young.  Life can be unbelievably cruel.
