Cut up four chicken breast halves into small pieces. Fry 1 tsp. olive oil over medium heat. In a separate bowl mix 1 tsp each of thyme, garlic pepper, lemon pepper, paprika and salt. When chicken is cooked, but still has juices, add the spices to the pan of chicken. Cook for 5-10 more minutes. Serve over your rice.

You raise an interesting point. My inclination is that the desire for socialization for socialization sake is not all it appears to be. If you are in a more remote area, your children will not necessarily be hindered by the lack of friends nearby.

We love Warriner's English Grammar and Composition. I have the 1977 edition.
My friend's son got near excellent score on the language arts portion of ACT and SAT.
Since we are trying to prepare our children for college, I highly recommend this program.
You can find the student textbooks on ebay.
The TM and tests are harder to find.
Your child is guaranteed to know grammar and usage after using this program.:001_smile:

Hi Denise,
Have you seen the list of 1000 great books on Classical Christian Education Support Loop?
http://www.classical-homeschooling.org/celoop/1000.html
Also Jan Bloom has a reference book called:
Who Should We Then Read?
I hope this helps.

Holly,
Be encouraged in the Lord! You know your son better than anyone else. I don't hang around unschoolers or relaxed homeschoolers anymore. My goal is to prepare godly men and women for a challenging world ahead through christian education.
Be steadfast, most likely your son will thank you someday and appreciate all that you are doing for him.

Thanks Gwen! It confirms what the Bible has to say:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some [is]; but exhorting [one another]: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:25 :grouphug:

At that age boys and girls don't mean what they say. I know of a boy who insisted that he should be called "butters" for a year or so, now he regrets it and wants to be called something else.
I know of another boy who argued with his mother and gave her smart answers such as " I didn't make my bed, I bought it!" Later the Lord used his smart mouth and brain to get him through Law School and Theological Seminary. This man is able to debate and give the most interesting logical answers to the hot topics such as abortion and homosexuality based on the Scriptures.
I guess what I am trying to say is to NEVER give up. The Lord is shaping and molding your son to the person He wants him to be despite his shortcomings. The Lord has His mysterious ways. Just be steadfast, pray and be consistent. A Bible study on character issues sounds like a great idea to me.
We read the Bible in one year kind of schedule. As we read the chapters for the day, I ask my children questions pertaining to character issues and how the Lord dealt with each individual. Our Heavenly Father has determined consequences for our actions, and I beleive He wants us to do the same for our children.
I'll be praying for you as well when I deal with my own little smart guy.

I definately agree with Quiverof10 in that if she is going to homeschool, she should definately become a Homeschool Legal Defense member.
Perhaps some homeschoolers in the area where she lives could help her with the yearly registration fee of $80 or Homeschool Legal Defense might give her a discount since she is a single mom.

:grouphug:I agree with everyone else that it is very doable. Specially if her daughter is already responsible and determined.
It is important for your friend to find a trustworthy homeschooling friend who can check on your friend's daughter and help with fieldtrips and outside activities/events.
We don't have a need for fieldtrips anymore, but our children are heavily into the local swim team.
I will be praying for your friend that she will find a godly christian homeschooler who would care for her daughter and offer help.

If your daughter is not going to take the AP or SAT II subject tests, then I would not worry about whether she finishes Biology in May or September.
However, in our case my daughter is preparing to take the AP Biology exam in May and we are working hard to finish the BJU text so that she can study for the AP exam.
We study Apologia (which is easier to undertand than BJU) when we run into something in BJU that we cannot understand. Actually each and everyday we have 3 books opended up to study Biology: 1) BJU Biology 2) Apologia Biology 3) AP Biology from Princeton Review. This way we are able to understand what BJU is saying. They seem to have too much crammed in one page and every page is like that. This makes it a very slow reading.
Apologia does an excellent job explaining difficult principles or terms. However, some people suggested that it would not prepare my daughter for the AP exam.
That's why I am using 3 different books just in case you are wondering why.
My daughter works on Biology between 3 to 4 hours per day! It is consuming her day. But I figured it's just one year and we will get through it by God's grace.
My friend's son studied BJU Biology along with Princeton Review AP Biology and scored very well on the AP exam.
I hope this helps. Be encouraged in the Lord. :grouphug:

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

We have been using BJU Biology, and it's been going too slow. I know it was written for classroom use.
That's why I decided to buy Apologia Biology. It has not arrived yet. So I really don't know what it will be like.
My DD is trying very hard to get ready for the AP Biology exam on May 11th. She and I work as much as 2, 3, 4 hours per day on BJU Biology and we just can't seem to get through the material in a timely manner so that she can be ready for the AP Biology exam.
1) When the Apologia Biology arrives, should I start from the beginning? or should I find out where we should pickup?
2) Would the Apologia Biology prepare her for a good score on the AP exam? Has anyone here take AP Biology using Apologia Biology?
3) Or should I stick to BJU Biology (even though I know we will not be able to finish BJU before May 11th)?
I thank you in advance for your advice.
M.H.

I am thinking about BJU French, but the thing that scares me is that their Geometry didn't explain things very well. I felt the same way about their Biology.
Please let me know what worked for you. I am in Wisconsin.
Thanks.
Should I keep these. or get rid of them?
