  1. Our meeting sounds more like Angela's. General teaching is given, but the meeting wouldn't be the place for a lady to speak up and say her husband was fooling around online.

We honestly don't have many special meetings. There is always plenty of time to talk to other adults while the children play. So, I don't see a baby sitter being needed since there is so much supervision with other adults and older children.

Same here. Children have learned to sit and listen and sometimes participate in our home church. We don't discuss specifics on hot topics such as adultery and some other sins. If someone needs help, he/she contacts a mature believer in Christ for prayer request/discussion.

We love our home church because the teaching is sound Biblical doctrine and all ages can participate.

  2. People hear "stress" in reference to fish and think of it in human terms, just psychological discomfort or something. But stress in fish leads directly to disease and illness.

Yes. When a fish is stressed, its immune system becomes weak and the fish is very prone to disease. That is why a fish can live so much longer if you give it a healthy environment.

To answer the rest of your questions, Kalanamak, a betta would be fine with a plant. Any sort that does well in moderate to low light should be fine.

Bettas will be fine with snails, but as Wishbone said, you will not need a snail just for the sole purpose of keeping the bowl clean. Either way, a snail will be a great tankmate for your betta.

    Have fun!

  3. Both guppies and white clouds are tropical fish and will need a heater, filter, and air pump. Thus, they are not a good choice for a small fish bowl. A betta may be put in a fish bowl without an air pump, but will not thrive as well as it would with one. If you are looking at putting a goldfish in a fish bowl, I would make sure it is the kind that stays under 6 inches. The fish bowl would have to be around a gallon or two, and you will need an air pump. No heater. No filter as long as you change the water every week or so. If you really want your goldfish to flourish, however, a 10 gallon tank with a filter and air pump would be ideal.

    Hope that helps!

  4. I am the youngest in my family and have had my fair share of being manipulated by family members.

Just a note of encouragement to OP: My family members leave me alone now that they have heard me practice what others have adviced you in this threat. They know my decision is final and they cannot manipulate me any longer.

At first it was very hard for them. But now, not only they are used to it, but also, they actually have more respect for me.

Trust me, it will get easier. The fact that we don't live in the same State as they do has helped a lot.

  5. I read a post earlier about BJU vs Apologia. Those who did not want to do two years of Apologia Biology in order to pass AP Biology, chose BJU Biology. I have both books.

BJU covers Human Anatomy and most everything else (but not all) that you need for AP Biology exam.

The first year Apologia Biology, eventhough homeschooler friendly, did not cover what we needed for AP Biology exam. Human Anatomy is covered in advanced Apologia Biology.

We are also using Princeton Review and Barron's in addition to BJU to prepare for the exam.

If your child is not going to take the exam, he/she might find Apologia more user friendly.

The hardest chapter in BJU Biology was chapter 2 dealing with chemistry. Since chemistry was not my favorite subject in highschool, it helped to have Apologia and other Biology books handy.

In highschool, I have decided to have more than one book on hand when it comes to subjects such as science. I think it helps to read someone else's explanations besides BJU.

  6. There are two types of Paypal accounts:

    1) The Premier (or Business account) accepts credit card paypments as well as bank account transfers and balance in paypal account. This account will charge you each time you accept money from another paypal owner. Without this type of paypal you will not be able to sell on Ebay. I think the fee is 3.9% plus 30 cents.

    2) The Personal account accepts payments from bank transfers or balance in paypal account. This account does not charge you for accepting money from another personal paypal account. It will charge you 3.9% plus 30 cents if you accept payments from Premier account paypal. You are only allowed to receive 5 such payments per year from a Premier account.

I have a Personal account which is linked to a checking account. This account was opened with a minimum of $5 in it for my paypal account only.

In other words, my Personal account is not linked to my primary bank account. I did not feel safe to have it done that way.

  7. We had about 6,000 peaceful and friendly people. It was the first time I've seen so many and friendly people all in one place in my liberal city.

The liberal media did not want to give us any attention, so they did not show up.

One talented and brilliant homeschooling teen spoke and the crowed cheered when they found out she was homeschooled. I am so proud of her.

Another girl who could not have been more than 10 or 11 years old had the best sign of all, it said something like this: "Please don't leave your huge debt for me, I haven't even started working yet."

There were so many awsome signs. I wish I had my camera with me.:001_smile:

  8. The Princeton Review says there are 120 multiple choice questions on Ap Biology, and Barron's says there are 100 multiple choice questions. Which is right?

Both books say there are 4 essay questions.

I searched on College Board's website, but cannot find the answer to my question. And their word document does not download to my computer because it must be huge and I don't have enough space.

    Thanks.

  9. Stacey,

I would be interested to know how your homeschooling friend would explain the reason for her close-knit family. Have you ever asked her?

As far as I am concerned, apart from Christ, my homeschooling efforts will yield very little results when it comes to a close-knit family relationship. Homeschooling helps, but it is ultimately our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that brings us together. Then through our time together (homeschooling) we can unite in our faith through many discussions/studies/and acts of service.

For us it is a multiple of factors.

  10. Brandy,

Please know that I am praying for the Lord's hedge of protection around your family. That satan's attempts and attacks would be shattered and thrown away. That this man will be found and brought to justice. I also praise the Lord for the answered prayers so far. I am praying that this man will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and King. Jesus is the only one who can help this man.

The Lord will take care of you as He has always, and this phase shall pass.

    Please keep us updated.

  11. When kids are begging to leave school then it is worse than you know. She is not being a bad parent. She is doing what is best for her child. If the administration already knows they are leaving the dd could be getting flack or maybe the reasons that they are leaving are only the tip of the ice berg and the mom just doesn't know it all. It took over a year for some stuff about my son's school experience to come out. I was amazed by what he hadn't told me.

Why wait? Let the child relax and soothe her anxiety. Being a parent sometimes means holding firm about really important things but it also means responding to the needs of our kids. She is expressing those needs in the only way she knows how and the mom needs to respond appropriately no matter what some random school officials think.

:iagree: Please encourage her to remove her child asap. There is more going on than she knows.

  12. I believe this reflects the ethics behind keeping the embryos frozen, or worse to destroy them. I don't think they should be destroyed either. I agree it is a problem to have freezers full of embryos. But the answer isn't to destroy them. The problem is in the indiscriminate creation in the first place.

In my medical ethics course in college we discussed the ending of life support. The rule in most cases of life support withdrawal is whether or not the person has the potential to survive on their own in time. In other words, do they have the potential of life? You can not withdrawal life support if the person has the potential of recovery. The same rule should apply to embryos. They all have the potential for life. Even when they are in the blastula phase. The *potential* is still there.

To do research on these "cells" is truly objectionable to me.

    :iagree: Very well put.

I do not support embryonic stem cell research under any condition. Adult stem cell research is fine as long as the adult consents and government $$$ is not involved.
