  1. My 5th and 7th graders want to learn Astronomy next. Any great recommendations for curriculum and living books?
  2. I also think she may not visualize the story. You know see the big picture.
  3. I think she's just struggling with figuring out what information to use and what she is supposed to do (ie. Divide, multiply) and she's also quick to just grab numbers and answer which may not be the right numbers in the problem. Patience is not her strong point and if its not immidiately aparent what she's to do she gets frustrated. She's very good at math though and excels with CLE. Which has been great for her. I just need to find her some tools to help her with her word problems. Maybe give her a plan. Because wth her other math everything has a step to follow and she does great.
  4. My 5th grader struggles with word problems. What can i do to help her? We have been using CUBE . Circle Underline Box and Eliminate the information to try to understand what information she needs and what is being asked. But word problems are still hard for her.
  5. Before every school year i read Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler's Guide to Unshakable Peace Book by Sarah Mackenzie. This is my plan for our next school year. I'll just pick one curriculum for each subject. Every year i find myself wanting add and mesh several curriculum i'd love to try, or i just cant choose one. This our year too complicated. This year as I planned, if find myself wanting to use more than one i realize i start to feel stressed. I'm a box checker. I can't stand to not finish a curriculum. So this year I'm sticking with one LA, math, science, history, elective, and tech. No more supplementing anything. If i don't think it can stand on its own I'll use something else. I'm going for depth this year . Really digging deep in each subject. Not dabbling in a bunch. After trying something similar after last spring's burn out, I'm sold on simplifying. We had the best spring after we simplified last spring. Once we eliminated check boxes, my stress disappeared.
  6. We've done LA level 1 and 3 now loved it. We'll happily doing the next levels next year. We used History 1 too and it was our best history We've had in our 5 years homeschool. Actually its the only history we've ever finished by end of school year and didn't get bored. We love the Good and the beaitiful.
  7. LA- The Good the Beautiful level 4 Math- CLE 500 Science- Science the Beginning Tech- Code.org and tinker crates History- The Good and The beautiful history 2 Extra- gymnastics
  8. I don't see a lot mention using this science curriculum. It looks really good though. Anyone using it? Which one's have you used? What did you like/dislike about it? I can't decide which one to try. Did you have a favorite?
  9. We've done elemental and rso. They6are k, but don't always get done. But i like apologia and berean looks really cool.
  10. I guess i mean written the student and fun to read, easy implement. Simple.
  11. Is there anything like Berean Builders or Apologia that is secular? (Note: Trying to find something our charter will pay for, but can't seem to find anything like the above curriculum that I think we'll like.) Suggestions?
