  1. Coming from someone who doesn't buy new clothes very often! It looks like I'm right at the top edge of the medium size according to the chart, and at the very bottom of the large size. Shall I order the smaller or larger size? I don't know which would be the most comfortable fit. It is more important to go by weight than height, right?

I haven't worn tights since I was probably 5 years old, and I haven't bought pantyhose in ages either. But I'm getting ready to be warm next winter!

    TIA

  2. Just my own opinion, but I think kids are always watching their parents. Our actions, our speech, everything about us is their character development curriculum. When we point out our own mistakes, sharing them honestly and openly, and expressing regret appropriately, our kids can learn an awful lot about how to deal effectively with their own shortcomings, throughout their lifetimes.

    :iagree:

I've used various character programs over the years, and while I think they have their place, I don't put as much stock in them as I did at one time. I've found the most important things are a lot of prayer, the Bible itself, having a good and open relationship with my kids, and BEING the kind of person I want my kids to become.

That being said, I do use CLE's reading program and agree with a pp that it does a great job at combining character and reading. I use it mainly for the reading instruction and consider the character part a nice benefit. Rod & Staff's "the Millers" series is also good, and my dc love the stories.

  3. Oh! This is so neat! How did they get the hole in the stone? You could turn a pottery vase on its side, maybe? I would love a rock like Ann has. What a neat idea!

    Thanks for sharing!

You're very welcome! Ann's garden is so beautiful and her rock is so cool. Maybe I'll email her and ask about it.

That's why I said I don't know if I can pull it off or not, (the rock, all those neat plants) but I think it would be a beautiful visual for the season.

  4. Check out this Very Cool blog for two awesome Lenten tea ideas: http://alicegunther.com/pages/teatime.htm I hope to do one Lenten and the Easter tea.

I also hope to make a countdown calendar in the shape of a lamb, with little squares on the body. Each day dc can glue on a cotton ball (unless I decide to go with stickers of some sort). I want to write the verse "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" somewhere on the paper as well. I saw the idea online but can't remember where.

For a craft I'm planning for us to make egg carton Lenten caterpillars, wrap them in coffee filter cocoons, then switch them out for Easter butterflies (didn't decide on which butterfly craft yet but I'm sure there's a lot of ideas online).

I'm considering making an Easter garden http://www.aholyexperience.com/2009/03/make-easter-garden-visual-parable.html but not sure if I'll be able to pull it off or not.

I also plan to set out some sort of display w/a wooden cross, grapevine wreath w/toothpick thorns, candles, etc.

We've never done anything for Lent before and I'm excited about it this year! Better get busy though...

  5. I want to teach world history integrated with Biblical/church history, but I also wanted to use SOTW. Biblioplan allows you to do both. The more secular presentation of SOTW is integrated with other resources that allow you to explore Biblical or church history occurring at that time.

Biblioplan doesn't have a lot of activities suggestions for younger children, so I'm using the SOTW AG for my younger children for their mapwork, coloring pages, and other activities. My oldest dd will use the Biblioplan maps and timeline. Overall, it's working very well, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the year.

    Blessings,

    Laura

This is what I'm planning to do w/Ancients in the coming year. Biblioplan also has a pack of coloring pages which I purchased since my littles love to color.

  6. We have both, but barely use the book. The flash cards get used hard. I introduce one, hang it up on the wall with a silly little illustration I draw (if illustrate-able!) and we review the growing list regularly. When I run out of room I take the oldest ones down and we review them only once in awhile. The wall/illustration combo has really worked well for us.

    Just our experience...

  7. Thanks. I'd love to hear your stories, good or bad. I have an 8 yo dd with an S curve in her back. Do you think this can be remedied?

My chiro story is regarding my MIL. Her first two pregnancies ended in miscarriages due to a tipped pelvis/uterus. She went to a chiropractor, THE Dr. Gonstead. After he treated her (not sure of the number of treatments, I'll have to ask) she went on to full term with each of her pregnancies and had 10 kids!

My dd7 is being treated by a chiro right now for the beginning stages of scoliosis. Her feet were really turning in too which was why we took her in the first place. He said scoliosis can usually be treated by chiro if it has not gone too far. It really is helping her.
