silver
My state requires standardized testing each year. I'm looking for a good test to give to an asynchronous learner. I expect reading and math will be above grade level, but spelling will be below grade level. I'm not concerned with subjects like science or social studies, so they don't need to be part of the test. The test must be norm-referenced. I'd like if it could give me useful information at all. To me, I'd find being able to directly compare scores from one year to the next useful (to see progress). Or to be told what grade level mastery is at (rather than the typical grade level equivalent). I'd also like to be able to administer the exam (rather than finding a test site). I'd love if the test was either adaptive or if it let the student continue until they hit the top of their ability. I'll need the test to be available for at least middle school, and preferably high school as well. Anyone know of a test that would be good for my needs? EKS
The best standardized test for an asynchronized learner is an individual assessment like the Woodcock Johnson, but if you were to ask them about mastery versus the grade equivalent, the vast majority of evaluators wouldn't understand what you're talking about. Instead, you will need to ask them at what grade level your child falls at the 90th percentile. I will warn you that they may still not be able to give you the information you want. You could also give your child the ITBS. For a very rough estimate of mastery, you could then take your child's percentile rank and see where it falls as compared to children at the 90th percentile using the NWEA/MAP norms. I can't find a link to the MAP norms report at the moment, but I will keep looking. I do have it on my computer, so you could always PM me to get the information. This isn't a perfect solution but it should give you a (very) general idea.
silver
I found a site that does MAP testing for homeschoolers. The sample report has the typical grade equivalent on it, but it also includes a chart that is very similar to the doctor growth charts. Since it's an adaptive test, would it be useful? Do you have to provide the results to anyone or do you just have to have your child take it? If you don’t have to turn the results into anyone I would give an above-level ITBS, place by the weaker of reading or math level and not worry about the spelling subtest Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
