ecmom45
My son has taken HS spanish 1 with Homeschool Spanish Academy. He found the curriculum very weak. Any recommendation for Spanish 2. His goal is to take SAT subject test eventually. Any feedback on Sra. Ana Carmona? Thanks.
RootAnn
There is a rather long list of online providers for Spanish. The pinned "foreign language online classes" thread lists several other options. At least the following: 121 SpanishCLRC La Clase DivertidaRay Leven The Potter's School Homeschool Connections Currclick HSLDA Online Excelsior Debra Bell Big River Academy Wilson Hill Academy My dd#1 took Spanish 1-3 from Sr Gamache at La Clase Divertida. She loved it, but it isn't for everyone. The teacher has organizational issues and the class is not secular. Unfortunately, I would not recommend the native Spanish-speaking teacher at Wilson Hill either. Those are the only two we've had personal experience with. (Well, actually, she's also done some HSA as a supplement/practice. I did find that they spread three years of grammar over four years of curriculum, but they do have conversation practice, it is one-on-one, and you can go slower or faster through the material depending on your ability. So, it certainly does have its place and if you can find a teacher you like and consistently get into that teacher, it seems a good fit for many.) crazyforlatin
We had Sra. Lamolinara of Excelsior for Spanish 3. She uses a standard textbook and workbook and emphasizes grammar. If she had a Spanish 4 class we would have continued; we're also at WHA with RootAnn. WHA Spanish 4 does teach some grammar but it's really a conversation class with some writing. We're going to try the SAT2 with listening to see if the score is better than her SAT2 score. DD took it last month with no preparation and basically no grammar review since last spring, and it showed. We did want a class with more conversation, but solid grammar is required for SAT 2. And I don't think 3 years of Spanish is sufficient to get 800. At least for DD.
