November Vacation around the Pacific Northwest?

We are planning a family vacation the second week of November (probably 8-10 days at most), and have no idea where we should go! We live in the Portland metro region and are frequent campers (we have a pop up camper). We spend a ton of time within a two hour driving radius of Portland, so we'd like to venture further out. DH would rather not fly for this vacation. I'd say no more than 8 hours driving each way? DS8 and DS11 are outdoor fanatics and love history and fishing. I would like to stay someplace that isn't a ton of work or susceptible to tons of rain (read: I'd rather not stay in the camper, but a cabin or yurt would be ok). Any thoughts or recommendations?

sequim/port angeles is in the rain shadow so the weather is more likely to be decent.  there's a wild animal park in sequim.   the south end of san jaun island is also in the rain shadow -there's even desert at the southern tip.  some history sites - ie: the site of the almost pig war between britian and the us.  there's whale watching.

sol duc hot springs may or may not still be open - you can check.  even if it's raining - it's mineral springs so the water is warm.  the swimming pool is heated with run off from the spas.  but I have a son whose happy to just sit in a hot tub.  they have cabins.  it's also doable to stay in sequim/PA and drive to sol duc - it's about an hour.  some good B&B's in PA that were family friendly.   do a day trip to victoria on the ball ferry out of PA.

kalaloch on the coast also has cabins.

if you want the washington coast - I would suggest more ocean shores area.  developed, lots of hotels - lots of sandy beach.

I would not go to quinault in november unless you plan on rain.  (I say that as someone whose dh thinks going in february/march is a great idea . . . )  it's rain forest - and easily gets in excess of 100" of rain a year.  rains here generally start in earnest the middle of october.

Thank you both for the suggestions!

PlumCrazy, we love Lake Quinault and the lodge there-- the pancakes are so delicious. :-) We camp there quite a bit, and really enjoy the hiking there.

GardenMom5, we have been to the Sequim Lavender Festival a few times, but haven't really explored more around the area. Would it be a good base from which to explore the surrounding area? We have spent a lot of time at Westport (a friend used to own a condo there), but we haven't really explored a ton of the Washington coast... thank you for the suggestions. I'll need to google more to see what I can find.

Does anyone know what Bend, Oregon is like in November? We used to visit Bend pre-kids, but haven't been there in over a decade. What is it like in late fall?

It's not likely to be raining, but will probably be somewhat cooler than on the western side of the Cascades, especially at night. There is lots to do in the area, and I think the drive from Salem, OR to Bend is stunning.
