ktgrok
If I use this for my 4 1/2 year old, do I have to teach the rhymes? He hates them, I hate them.

Like will SWB string you up by your toes until the rhymes have been taught? Nah, unlikely. There are only the two rhymes, right? Just the one for vowels and the one for consonants? Just teach the letters and sounds however you want and then jump right to section 3 and start blending short vowel words. Wendy
MeaganS
I've skipped it all 3 times so far. I always start with blending after they know their letter sounds. I primarily use apps and the frog to teach letter sounds. Edited May 26, 2017 by Meagan S
ReadingMama1214
I haven't used the rhymes. We started on lesson 27 though since dd knew her letter sounds from leapfrog and other resources. But I wouldn't do the rhymes. I don't care for them. Now my DS would probably love them. He loves rhymes.
mommysanders
This is our second time through and both times we have skipped the letters and sounds. My kids learn them in other ways, a major one being the letter factory DVD. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Finlandia
We skipped the rhymes too. It seemed easier to just learn the letter sound, and DD hated the rhymes.
Guest
Oh my goodness I've used it with three kids at different levels and I didn't even realize there were rhymes!
ktgrok
Lol, I guess I'm good then! Thank you!
aprilleigh
We skipped them - at the end of 4th grade DS was reading on an 8th grade level, so I'm thinking the program works just fine without them.
