Writerdaddy
My boy has steadily declined in handwriting to the point where he is slow, messy, and illegible. He's developing fine in all other ways but it's like a regression back in time. Any recommendations for a handwriting program that would be good for an older child writing in regular ruled notebooks (and not giant sized lines)? He needs to write both faster AND neater (he's in public school now) and I'm not sure how to help him. Thanks!
nansk
Look at Penny Gardner's Italics (available on CurrClick.com), or Getty-Dubay's Write Now. I've used both and they were helpful. ETA: See this thread for more suggestions. Edited October 2, 2016 by nansk
musicalmom1125
I put my 8th grader in Cursive Writing in the Handwriting Without Tears series. He never really got to cursive (how did we miss that?!?!) and needs to at least be able to read it. It's working well for us.
Janeway
I did get the 6th grade Zaner-Bloser for my older child. The lines are thin enough for grown up practice. Also, you could probably just go to any book store and pick up a handwriting practice book from an older grade level.
OneStepAtATime
If he is being required to write far more extensively and much more rapidly than before he may be experiencing a lot of fatigue. He may need exercises to help develop hand strength and stamina in a more balanced way than just exclusively more handwriting practice. Look on line for hand strengthening exercises. Also, you might Google dysgraphia, just in case. Edited October 2, 2016 by OneStepAtATime
...................
My son reverted back to print which was shocking since he had beautiful legible cursive and used it exclusively for SIX years. His manuscript however is beautiful and his cursive is ok if he's not in a hurry. Do you allow your son to use manuscript?
