Half-Elven
If you've used CAP Writing and Rhetoric, can you tell me what you liked about it? -did it help your student write better -did you feel you had to supplement with another program -do you feel it is complete -are you able to apply it to modern writing i.e. 5 paragraph essay We are currently using Classical Writing, we'll be in Chreia next year. I do think it is a thorough Progym program, however, the way it is laid out, I've had a hard time getting the rhythm and flow of it that our year looked "choppy." If there are already threads to this, please let me know!

I have had good experience with CAP products and was sad we weren't going to be able to use it. You might try a search on progymnasmata programs in general. Classical Composition has been around a while. It is now marketed through Memoria Press, but existed on its own well before that. Lost Tools of Writing is another, although I'm not sure if it's considered progym. completely or not. We used Classical Writing for a few years. I did not feel it needed supplementation. I also found it hard to find the flow, I wanted to love it, but it was teacher intensive. Eventually we switched to a more traditional program, including some custom stuff as I have a remedial writer. I do think Classical Writing helped my son develop a sense of flow, good sentence structure, good vocabulary, and a sense of logic about writing. CAP does provide generous samples of their programs including the TE, so it would be easy to do a test run and see how it works.
SilverMoon
W&R is too new to have high school kids that have grown up using it. You'll get better answers if you try asking in the K-8 forum. :001_smile: FWIW, I think Chreia and above is the strongest part of CW. It gets more user friendly beyond Homer, IMO. kids&me
My 9yr. old 4th grade DD is currently taking the online Writing and Rhetoric book 1&2 through Classical Academic Press with Zoe Perrin, Endicott, and she loves it! It is gentle.(Zoe is a total sweetheart!) I have also added WWE3 along with a Analytical Grammar. Unfortunately, I really pounded the writing with my son at the younger ages and it created such a fear of writing. I didn't want to make the same mistake with my daughter. Anyway, my daughter says she loves writing now. Next year, she is taking Writing and Rhetoric book 3&4 with Zoe . I also signed her up for the basic grammar course through wtma which is only one 1 hour per week for 1 semester. Lastly, I plan on switching my daughter completely over to wtma by 6th grade for WWSI & history. I absolutely love their new academy. In my opinion they are the most caring and helpful online school. (My 8th DS is currently taking WWSI & Geography) both classes have been wonderful:-) He is also at other online schools for science & Algebra & Latin. Hope some of this helps:-)
