Heathermomster
I'd scribe for her and work very slowly. Dr. Charles Haynes of the Landmark School recently hosted a webinar that discussed the subroutines required for sentences and paragraphs output. Maybe scribe for her and tweak CAP's Fables accordingly. BTW, I would not deem difficulty with handwriting as a mind over matter issue until your child has received a full, one hour OT evaluation that examines pincer/core strength, vestibular, balance, handedness, motor planning, and visual perception. Also, 50% of children with ADHD suffer with motor planning issues.
geodob
You described your child as 'writing-phobic'. So perhaps you could really consider it in terms of a Phobia? With a phobia causing anxiety, when faced with a particular. The fact that 'once she gets going, she seems to enjoy writing'? Is rather like a phobia of dogs, but once one pats the dog. The phobia disappears. So that it is the thought of writing, that is causing the anxiety. Where phobias are 'mental scripts', that are immediately recalled when faced with a particular 'thing'. But these 'mental scripts' can be rewritten. What could be used, is the 'limit' that you spoke of, once she gets started? What I'm thinking of? Is when she gets going, and seems to be enjoying writing? That she takes a brief break before she arrives at her 'limit'. As she was enjoying writing when she took the break? When she returns, she might rather recall that she was enjoying writing? Instead of the phobia/ anxiety. Which after experiencing this often, could develop a new mental script with writing?
