Murphy101 Posted February 3, 2011 Share Posted February 3, 2011 My first born struggles with math, which in turn makes most of the proclaimed rigorous science options a struggle. Someone sent me Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum for free to pass on to others more needy than myself. I hadn't discovered this before and am intrigued. It looked like it covered the same info as the Abeka and Apologia text, but in a more basic bite sized format. I would be looking at integrated physic and chemistry and if that worked out, we would do biology w/ anatomy to complete ds's high school science credits. This son has ZERO desire to ever work in a science field that requires math beyond algebra, but he does think science interesting. My concern is the lack of labs. Biology is easy peasy for labs and I already have everything except a case of various specimens. I already have a complete experiments kit from home science tools and An Illustrated Guide to Home Chemistry Experiements. I "think" adding some labs from those to paradigm wouod be enough for lab credit? Opinions on Paradigm science? atozmom Posted February 3, 2011 Share Posted February 3, 2011 My DD is using PAC for the exact same reasons you mentioned for your son. I think it would be plenty if you add in labs. They don't even have to match up completely with the lesson he is working on. She is doing much better with this than anything else we have tried. They suggest that you use the course over 2 years, but we are doing it all in one. I think I eliminated one or two of the books. 1Togo Posted February 3, 2011 Share Posted February 3, 2011 Look at TOPS science for labs. They have science units for all ages. These would combine well with PAC. Btw, we're using PAC U.S. History, and dd enjoys it. PAC is perfect if you want to assign a credit, but need a lighter course because of interest, ability or other commitments. My science interested but not so savvy boy has interest in a science field. I'm not sure how that's going to pan out, but hoping PAC heads us in the right direction with the least confusion.
