I need help from people in Florida please

Recommended Posts

We are considering a trip to Disney and we are thinking about September. Rates are cheaper and crowds are said to be lower. But I know it is also peak hurricane season. And the temps are still quite hot. Can you give me your opinion on visiting in September? Does it rain alot and is it really hot? I would hate to pay all that money and basically get rained out.

Any advice you can offer would be great. Any tips about Disney itself and where to stay are welcome also. We were thinking a Disney Value Resort.

Could we get by without renting a car?

September should be fine. Honestly, the rain isn't that bad and if it does rain badly enough to shut Disney down, they usually hand out passes for a return visit (but you gotta bit--uhh, complain for it)...

If you are staying ON property, you won't need a car. If you are going anywhere off property, the cost of a rental is far cheaper than a taxi.

Check out the mouse boards, umm--I can't remember the URL, but search Disney Boards and you should find it.

September isn't usually too hot. But the lack of crowds makes up for the heat because anywhere you go in the park they usually have the a/c cranked..

If you're going to visit in September, go for LATE in September. Hurricanes, historically, are less likely then. No promises. As far as hot, it's hot here in September. Think mid-high 90's during the day and low-mid 80's at night. You will need lots of sunscreen, hats and breaks mid-day to swim or nap at your hotel.

We're not big theme park people. You CAN get some great deals and I'm sure others will post about them. My advice is to keep a backpack with light snacks and some water bottles (you can refill them at the park fountains) My kids would never settle down long enough to eat a real lunch.

I lived in FL on and off for 18 years. It is hot in Sept so go as late as possible. The rain showers usually last less than an hour. I am planning a disney trip myself and I bought some rain ponchos at Outdoor World for a $1 and I am putting one in each person pouch.

Have fun.

Best advice I can give you is to take a break around 3:30, go back to your hotel, and just rest. Don't know how old dd is, but I'd really like to encourage you to do this. Read a few brochures, watch a little tv, just relax. If you can actually shut your eyes for 20 minutes, so much the better. Have dinner at your hotel. Then, go back to the park around 6:30. You will see a number of people with exhausted, crying, cranky children heading for the exits. The parents will look stressed and so like they are no longer in love with the Mouse. You, however, will be fresh, rested, cheerful and ready to go. It is amazing. It works. Trust me. Seems counterintuitive, like you need to cram everything in, to go as long as you can to get the most for your $--you paid a lot for this vacation, and daggummit, you are going to not waste one moment. But it is the most valuable way to spend your time.

Now, it doesn't work for everyone, but it's been my one tip I tell everyone. We've been to Disney 3 times as a family, and to Universal one time. DH grew up going to Disney multiple times. The first time, we crammed. After that, we wised up. Had much nicer times.

too many hurricanes....and remember that is peak hurricane season! If something were to swirl up in the tropics...then you will be worried the whole time.....not worth it.

I would go in December.....Ok...I wouldn't go at all....but since you did ask, LOLLOLOLOL!
