pjssully
Has anyone used or has experience with videotext algebra or geometry? Still looking for a good fit--we have tried several options already (Kinetic algebra and TT)Neither was a good fit and we tried TT TWICE! thanks for any input. pam
Tullia
I'm on my way out the door, so don't have time for a detailed reply. You might search for old threads under either Video Text or my user name. A fair number of my posts on the HS boards are about that. I'll check in later if you have more questions. You can pm me as well if you prefer. AlmiraGulch
My 8th grade DD finished the first three modules of VideoText Algebra in one semester (the equivalent of Algebra 1) and is doing quite well in the second set of modules. She's fairly math minded, but the explanations on the DVDs are wonderful, there are plenty of problems for practice if there's a concept she doesn't get, and an 800 number for live help if she should need it (but she never has). I LOVE this method of teaching, and apparently she does, too. She'd be acing it except that the tests are quite long and cover a lot of material, so she has a high B at this point. We'll be continuing with VideoText for Geometry next year.
Capt_Uhura
I'd also like to read more about VT. I'll try to search as well. My limited understanding is that it teaches the WHY of things, not just the HOW. That's what I liked about RS and Singapore Math.
Leanna Tomlinson
I had three children do all 6 modules of VideoText Algebra. Geometry wasn't ready in time for us, but my ds would have loved it. My math minded dc (2 of them) did well with VT Algebra. My math struggler (dd#1) really needed more review. She ended up having to take some remedial Algebra in her freshman year of college. I would not use it with a child who has always struggled in math. My two that did like it said it's nice to have another textbook around as a reference since it's not always easy to refer back to the videos.
