EKS
I don't know if it's too much but I'm right there with you with my 8th grader next year. *He* thinks it's too much but I don't see how we can get through a year's worth of material in each subject without doing 5-6 hour days. Kareni
...Math 45 min 5 days TT Pre- Algebra & Algebra 1 I do wonder about this. Has he already begun Pre-Algebra? It might be pushing it to expect him to finish two years worth of math within a school year. Or perhaps you school year round? jibaker103
Sorry for the confusion! Yes, he started back in the Spring slowly and we homeschool year round. Before leaving on vacation he finished lesson 25. He will start back in 2 weeks. Jennifer Mother to Noah Age
FloridaLisa
Jennifer, The Fridays look awfully full. It looks like 7.5 - 8.5 hours during the day with another 4.5 hours in the evening. Personally, I'd rather frontload our week, with a heavier Monday and Tuesday. Also regarding these books: Logic 30 min Fallacy Detective & Thinking ToolboxLife Skills 60 min Life Pac Home Ec, Money Matters, HS HS & Beyond, etc. What about doing them sequentially rather than simultaneously? In other words, work through TT and FD during the first semester and the Life Skills material the second semester. First, it's a bit disjointed to pick up FD (and possibly TT) once a week. I think your dc will be better served by doing a lesson per day (15 - 20 minutes) 3 times per week than one thirty minute chunk once a week. Second, it's fun to change things up in January. Close out TT/FD and start a whole new subject: life skills. Just another way to approach it that you might want to consider. HTH, Lisa Game day and Family Meeting I don't really count as official school because that is our social time with family, friends, and neighbors in the evening and it probably won't happen every Friday. Probably every other or every 3rd Friday. Library Day can be shifted to Sat or Sun if we run out of time or just don't feel like it, lol!!! As far as logic and life skills it's my fault you misunderstood. We homeschool year round so I plan to do these curriculums just as you suggested...sequentially. Once we finish FD we will move on to TT, when we finish Pre-Alg we will move on to Alg 1 and so forth. I like the idea of logic and Bible twice per week for 15 min. I was just worried about discussions going longer than the allotted time...hmmm. Life skills I was thinking of breaking down into mini units lasting anywhere from 2-8 weeks throughout the year depending on topic and how long my son will need to grasp it. Julie in MN
Geography 30 min 5 days Trail Guide World Geo & Geo Thru ArtScience 45 min. 5 days PH SE Phys Sci & Fun Forensic Sci Unit I made Health & PE 30 min 5 days Pres Challenge, Wii Fit, Holt Health, etc. Fridays will also include: Bible 30 min Mt. Calverly Online Children's Bible Study For my 8th grader, the geography (if he's doing history as well) & science would only need 3-4 days a week. We don't do health daily unless you include phy ed-type exercise alone on several of those days. And we read the Bible every day at our house, tho it's not necessarily a "study." We might read one "story" (which is usually about 1/3 of a chapter), and my ds types a sentence about what was most important. We may add a hymn or copy a verse, etc. (We use MFW, which has most things planned out, but before that with my older dd I also wanted Bible as part of her "important stuff.") Thank you for your input. I will see if I can get the Geo down to 4 days but science my ds loves and would want to do it all day, every day, lol. I'm thinking 4 days of SE Phys Sci and Friday our fun unit on Forensic Sci. Health is 1 day and the other 4 PE. As far as Bible we are actually secular HS but I want him to at least know about and discuss the Bible. I actually plan to do a course in high school like I did in college which was called Literature of the Bible so we will go more in depth then. jibaker103
Oh, how interesting. I applaud your idea. Thank you! The class I took definitely opened me up to various view points and religions. I also loved the discussions, debates, and arguments, lol!!!! It helped that the prof. was neutral and just introduced topics every meeting. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot! So many read Homer, and so few read the whole Bible. <sigh>

So many read Homer, and so few read the whole Bible. <sigh> I give him worksheets with fill in the blank questions, crossword puzzle, and word search. He has to use the Bible to find the answers. I'm sure he is just skimming instead of really reading but that's ok with me right now. We will start to have more discussions about it I'm sure. We were also reading Adam and His Kin aloud up until the book disappeared (I'm definitely looking into those workboxes suggested on the k-8 section of the board) and Noah seemed to like it...he asked a lot of questions. What my ultimate goal in all of this is to expose Noah to the Bible and let him learn about God so that when he gets older he can make his own decsions about how he wants handle religion. Julie in MN
(I'm definitely looking into those workboxes suggested on the k-8 section of the board) I'm going to try this, too. My son needs to work independently a little more this year, but he always uses the excuse that he didn't understand or couldn't find something... Noah seemed to like it...he asked a lot of questions. I think we all have an intrinsic desire to know our Father. JMHO!
