Christine
Okay, I want to do Spanish with my kids. I do NOT want to do Rosetta Stone or Aurolog. I do want to do something that incorporates writing (even if, at first, it's just vocab cards). Please give me your suggestions.

Miss Marple
This is why we opted to do Spanish during concurrent enrollment at our local university. I don't know if that's an option for you, but if it is, it's one I would recommend.
Hillary in KS
We're using Galore Parks' "So You Really Want To Learn Spanish." We're just in Book 1, so far. http://www.galorepark.co.uk/home_schoolers.php?category1=Spanish I've ordered from the UK's Book Depository with great service. others have ordered from Horrible Books in the US, but sometimes you have to wait until he gets a new shipment of books in. The book is set up more like a traditional Spanish textbook. I would recommend getting the audio CD, so he can listen to native speakers. (We didn't get that. I read it to him myself. But I'll get the CD for Book 2) The exercises involve speaking and listening, as well as reading and writing. We're enjoying the series. It moves at a quick pace once you get past Chapter One. We use in in conjunction with Rosetta Stone (RS: MWF, SYRWTLS: M-F), but , obviously, you don't have to.
