momto2
Which one would you recommend for grade 1 and why thank you
Laurel
Assuming you are looking for a challenge, definitely IP. There are similar word problems to CWP1 in IP, plus so much more.
JABarney
Our vote is for both, if you can swing it. We are using both and it really cements the ideas. In case you haven't heard, CWP will soon be out of print. Jenny at Singapore Math.com says that there will be some replacement, but likely it will not be as challenging. Shelly in the Country
We've always used both, but if you must choose one or the other, IP will give you a much better review of the concepts in the lessons. IP can be quite challenging as well. That said, I just purchased enough copies of CWP for all of my children for all 6 levels of Primary Math since it is going OOP. brehon
Both, if you can afford it. Both have the student apply the information learned in the textbook in different and varying ways. IP is not solely words problems, though it does include them. IP's great strength, I think, is giving problems of increasing difficulty and making the student think about how to apply the concept. CWP's problems increase in difficulty through the chapter. I've been very happy to use them both (and have seen my ds understand concepts better through using both). hsmom27
We're only in level 1, but we greatly prefer the IP. It's significantly more challenging and has so many more kinds of problems, including word problems. That said I also ordered the next 5 years of CWP, since they will be OOP. Tree House Academy
I did not do CWP for grade 1 (even though I did do some in IP) because I tended to use it a grade behind. My older ds was doing CWP 2 and Singapore 3A and 3B. My younger would not start CWP 1 until he was doing Singapore PM 2A and 2B. HTH
