Melissa B
It appears that the house we are moving to does not have DSL or digital high-speed internet. Are there any other options for high speed internet?
Parrothead
That Hughes Net satellite internet may be an option for you.
Ria
We have Verizon FiOS (high speed fiber optic broadband). It's amazing. Ria
Tutor
You can also try Wild Blue satellite internet. If you are interested in DirecTV, you can get a discount by signing up for them and Wild Blue at the same time. Just call and ask the DirecTV people. (We weren't interested in satellite TV, but stumbled across this deal in our search for satellite internet and it turned out cheaper the first year to get both than to get just the internet. After the first year, we dropped DirecTV and kept the internet.)
jamnkats
We use HughesNet (as we were moving quite a bit, and there is nothing like being the middle of the Sierra Madres with not a rancho within walking distance, hauling your water from a stream, but having internet access (via genset that travels with us). :) It is not as fast as DSL, but varies from around 256K to 512K+ (depending on how much you pay). You can get a used system off Ebay or checkout the datastorm users group (google is your friend) marketplace.
laurafrantz
I second the FIOS recommendation. This page will let you check to see if it's available in your area.
NicksMama-Zack's Mama Too
Perhaps you could get a broadband card ($60 month) and a broadband card router (Cradlepoint MBR1000)? My friend in the rural area has this and loves it.
Margaret in GA
We have Verizon FiOS (high speed fiber optic broadband). It's amazing. Ria This is what we have. It's not perfect (our cell phone coverage is spotty out here), but a million times better than dial up. Good Luck! Margaret
