I'm such a mean mom, I don't care if he doesn't have to know it for the SAT. Jann in TX Posted February 17, 2009 Share Posted February 17, 2009 I usually let my classes use a 'postulate/theorem' sheet on their tests--but in most cases I've already given a quiz on them... There are no proofs on any standardized college prep test. There are just too many different ways to correctly work a proof. Only the 'application' part is tested. My son has not been using the postulates from his book, but on his last test, there were 2 problems that he couldn't get and I told him it was okay to look at them. I think they are hard to remember! MyThreeSons Posted February 17, 2009 Share Posted February 17, 2009 I'm not teaching a class in memorization. I want my students to be able to accurately apply what they've learned. On standardized tests, as someone else said, there is no (efficient) way to "do proofs" in a multiple-choice format. However, there are problems which the student will need to solve by moving thru a logical series of steps, similar to doing a proof, but with the answer simply being the measure of an angle or some such.
