Jackie in AR
This will be for 14yo boys. Lattimore? Fagles? H. W. Smyth? Anyone have a favorite?

Guest Lorna
My favourite is the Fagles translation we studied at Edinburgh University. I found it very readable and entertaining.
LisaNY
This is my favorite. I used this translation as well, and enjoyed it very much.
Dee in MI
I used the Lattimore translations for all of the plays, but I liked the Oresteia, and hope to read the Fagles someday. I enjoyed Fagles Odyssey.

Nan in Mass
I can't remember which translation we read. Whichever it was, my sons liked it. I have a question, though. When you compare the two translations, is it the same as comparing the Fagles and Lattimore Iliads, one plainer and the other more poetic sounding? When we read The Iliad, we read a little of both. I would have liked to read the Lattimore one, but thought the Fagles one probably would suit my youngish boys better. -Nan
