LaxMom
Um, do your squirrels normally eat wildflowers? The only issue I've ever had was them hopping off the birdfeeder onto a hosta and breaking it. They don't eat my plants, though, decorative, herb or vegetable. Doran
...some ideas to try * Cayenne pepper or bloodmeai sprinkled around the plants can be helpful (are you talking about acres of wildflowers, or just a patch?) * I've heard that rags soaked in vinegar can act as a deterrent * Feed them something better in another spot, until the wildflowers are established. Not sure I love this idea, but others think it works. Seems to me it just asks for a big fat squirrel party! * Pellet gun * Cats :tongue_smilie:
AnnetteB
California Poppies are cheerful. You could check with your local garden center for local favorites.
Ria
Are you worried about the squirrels eating the seeds before they germinate? Probably not an issue...wildflower seeds are way too small for squirrels. Squirrels do not eat flowers. Ria
newbie
I am worried about the squirrels eating the wildflowers after they have grown. Our squirrels are crazy, I have even seen them carry off a dead bird. I was thinking about just planting about an acre. I wanted a variety and something that lasts all yr. Call the good folks at Peaceful Valley and ask their advice. They should have wildflower blends to match your location and needs, and they may have advice on the squirrels as well.
