A really great article about the joy of reading...

Recommended Posts

...but I enjoy books that are harder so much more now because I read them somewhat critically. And I read them having read many many other books that I can compare them with and think about. I read them with a love of good language. I read them with much more knowlege of many more cultures. I read them with much less patience for poor writing, because I have so much more confidence that I can always find another really good book to read.

I think it like it better now.

And, yes, it has been a lot of fun to revisit the really good books of my childhood with my DD--two of the best of which were mentioned in that article--"Little Women" and "The Diamond in the Window".

Great books for me are those in one of two main categories:

1. Books that I'm thrilled to visit again and again, finding more or different things to value in them each time.

2. Books that inspire me to be better in some way.

I have not run out of either of those types of books yet. And for that I am deeply grateful.
