cintinative
I'm not really sure we can pull this off, but I wanted to see if anyone has done this. It looks like we could "self-study" and submit a portfolio (transcripted as of 2-D art with AP exam) OR we could go through the process of the course audit, select an approved syllabus that we will follow, and then submit the portfolio (transcripted as AP 2-D Art and Design). We will need a portfolio for college apps in the fall of 2024 anyway, so maybe this is something we can pursue? I have just not done any AP courses myself before and I don't know if it is too late to pursue the approved course now. ETA: I looked at the example syllabi and this is over my head totally. I don't have the art background and my dad, who does, doesn't have the time. But I will leave the question up in case it helps someone else. Farrar
I have heard of at least one family who did this successfully, but the parent had an art background. I think art is something that non-artists will struggle to support in a serious manner. Even if you technically self-study it, I'd find some outside instruction for a student looking at portfolio submissions.

I started looking at it and it is way beyond me and my dad doesn't have time to make sense of it all. He is an old school graphic designer so he has the skills, but he just doesn't have the time to get up to speed on AP stuff. So I am shifting in focus to just doing a portfolio for the colleges and not worrying about AP. I have two artists (one high school art teacher and one former art teacher, current artist) that I have asked to do a lookover on the portfolio after my dad helps my son put it together. Hopefully one of the two of them can consult with us (I am going to pay whoever does it).
Farrar
You should also have him do National Portfolio Day if you can.

There is even a local event for this. Thank you.
