What kind of oil for homemade doughnuts?

I've made doughnuts (from canned biscuits, so not technically homemade) and can't decide on the best oil to use. What's a good one?

I've always heard that peanut oil was best for high temp frying.

I've used Coconut Oil and they tasted great. My husband is very opposed to me sneaking coconut oil into foods because he swears he can always taste it. He LOVED these. We could definitely smell it as it cooked though, kinda smokey.

You can always taste the coconut oil, but in sweet goodies it adds a yummy flavor. It is expensive for deep frying, though so I would go with the peanut oil.

I think I might even have used vegetable oil too.

I use canola oil too without any problem.

but I used plain ol' vegetable oil when I made mine! If you needed to get the oil really hot then peanut oil would be better.

We used vegetable oil, but there was something we didn't quite like and blamed the oil. I have canola oil, so I'll try that. If that doesn't work, I'll try peanut. I've never seen coconut oil, and I don't know if I'd use it if it is too pricey, but I'll keep it in mind.

The only reason we used coconut is that dh has to watch his cholesterol. Coconut oil is a "healthy" oil. We don't fry much of anything anymore, so these donuts were a real treat for him.
