LadyAberlin
My ds just turned 5 last week and we have just started Alphabet Island Level 2 Unit 2 and it is really heavy on Spelling. We will be using AAS in the Fall and so I really don't care to work on Spelling right now. I may mix in The Alphabet Island stories with AAS. I'm wondering if I should get somthing else for Phonics instruction for now. Anyone have any suggestions? I am using Sonlights Readers 1 with him right now as well. Is it enough to just continue with the readers and call it a day? I'm not interested in STWR or TWRTR because I just won't do them. I know myself! ElizabethB
Blend Phonics is free and easy to do, just do a word or two of things he knows well, things he has a bit more trouble with, do more words. It's the 2nd free download on Don Potter's page, scroll down a tad, you can do either the blend phonics original or the reader: http://www.donpotter.net/ed.htm
MerryAtHope
I don't think you need to add phonics to AAS, I might be tempted to just continue with reading. As you come across new (to your son) phonograms, introduce the phonogram to him and let him know what sound or sounds to use for that one.
