Alicia64
Hi Everyone, I came across this cool Harvard book list. It's hard core, but would be a great resource over all high school and college years. I'd never heard of it. Thought you might like to see it. Book list here.
bibiche
Ah, Dr Eliot’s Five-Foot Shelf of Books. Here’s a short article to flesh out your link a bit: https://www.harvardmagazine.com/2001/11/the-five-foot-shelf-reco.html
Lori D.
A possible go along (although it only schedules excerpts from these classics, not full works) is the kindle book: The Harvard Classics in a Year: A Liberal Education in 365 Days -- the book is mentioned in this past thread. And you can download all 51 classics for free at Open Culture. Also a bit of discussion on this set of books in these past threads:Harvard ClassicsHarvard Classics 5 foot shelf? Another helpful source of ideas for books is a college bound reading list:College Board's listHoagies' Gifted Education website listEdSite website's listSchmoop list -- this is nice because it's sub-divided into genres We used some of Invitation to the Classics (Cowan), which has a classics booklist, plus nice background info on authors, works, and movements in literature. And of course, SWB's The Well-Educated Mind: A Guide to the Classical Education You Never Had had a great book list with short background info about authors and works. We fleshed out our reading list with works from around the world, and 20th & 21st century works, culling ideas from recommendations on various threads on these boards, plus from my own reading of contemporary works.
