Elizabeth86
We mostly use Apologia for science and they don't have anything for earth science, just astronomy. Any suggestions? I'm hoping with be book based rather than a textbook. Thanks. ETA my boys are 7 and 9. Also ETA I don't care if it is Christian YE or Old or secular. We are good with just discussing what we believe compared to what we read. Edited February 25, 2021 by Elizabeth86
skctgbrlis
The Good and the Beautiful has some earth science units. They are very well done and my boys really enjoy them.

carrierocha
This older book could be decent for that age. Since it was written in the 1950s it is outdated a bit - especially in the last part where they talk about how mountains form, but this was written before the theory of tectonic plates was accepted so there is a different theory included. I actually thought it was interesting to read those older ideas. https://www.amazon.com/Rocks-Rivers-Changing-Earth-Geology/dp/0486782018
carrierocha
Meteorology would be great to do with kids that age. You can probably pick up a simple meteorology unit study from Teachers Pay Teachers. Or, if I remember correctly Elemental Science had something decent for weather in the elementary years...but it was many years ago when I used it! Lori D.
I had a blast creating our own Earth Science! How long of a unit do you want? Or what do you want to focus on? Because there are enough topics that you could spend a year on Earth Science: sub-topics of Earth Science: - Geology • rocks, minerals, gemstones, fossils • plate tectonics; volcanoes; earthquakes • glaciers; landforms; erosion; soil - Meteorology • atmosphere, atmosphere layers • seasons; sun, wind, water; water cycle • rainbow; clouds • rain, hurricane, snow, blizzard, tornado • weather forecasting - Oceanography • mapping of oceans • tides, waves, currents • beach; coral reef; ocean zones (sunlit zone, twilight zone, midnight zone, abyss, hadal zone) • life forms and their environments - Astronomy • solar system, sun, moon, planets, asteroids • stars, galaxies • black holes, quasars, nebula • studying space, space exploration, telescopes, astronauts, probes additional topics that fit in with Earth Science: - Biomes -- cave; marine; coral reef; freshwater; mountain; desert; arctic; grasslands; savanna; tundra; forest; jungle/rainforest - Geography -- mapping of Earth; exploration of Earth - Environmental Science -- interactions between living things and the landscape, atmosphere, water - Ecology/Eco-systems -- life forms and their environmentsResources Without knowing what exactly you're thinking, here are a few things to jump start your research: - Geology Rocks! (Blobaum) -- gr. 1-6; info and activities - Geology Lab for Kids: 52 Projects -- gr. 2-7 - Elemental Science: Earth Science & Astronomy (gr. 2-3) -- Cathy Duffy review - On the Mark Press: Earth & Space units -- gr. 3: Earth, Weather & Waste; gr. 4: Rocks & Minerals & Waste - 101 Effective Earth Science Demonstrations Using Only One or Two Items -- William Johnston & Mark Francek gr. 1-8; FREE pdf download of activities/demonstrations -- geosphere (20), atmosphere (22), hydrosphere (19), space/astronomy (26), general inquiry (14) Edited March 9, 2021 by Lori D.
