Lori D.
Contact College Board SAT. Here is the info about SAT Refunds. Mostly it is about cancelling/switching test days, but this is about canceling the essay:"If you're just unsure about taking the SAT Essay portion, no problem. You may be able to remove or add the SAT Essay from your registration on test day if test materials, rooms, and staff are available. If you are able to switch on test day, the essay portion of your registration will be refunded after the test." Here is the info about how to Contact SAT -- for changes to test type (which is what I would guess opting out of the essay would be):Online: Create or sign in to your College Board AccountPhone: Domestic: 866-756-7346Phone: International: 212-713-7789 If you asking whether or not that's a good idea to cancel the SAT essay... Some colleges do require the essay, many many colleges do not require the essay. That is really the only reason I can think of to take the essay, is for possible future hoop-jumping for admission to a college. The essay itself is very different from what it was prior to the SAT test change in 2016. Now it is about reading an article and then writing an essay the explains how the article author builds an argument to persuade the reader. That kind of essay writing is not really going to be used outside of the SAT test. The old SAT essay, and the current ACT essay had/have the student choose a prompt and form an opinion and build an argument of support for their opinion about the prompt (a persuasive essay. BEST of luck in DS's test-taking! Warmly, Lori D.
