fleece
The student did pretty well on the reading part of the placement test, but did pretty poorly on the spelling section. She really needs help and practice spelling. Is Explode the Code enough? Do you have other curriculums or supplements you recommend. Money is tight. Susan in TX
Explode the Code is enough for a child who is still learning how to read. I don't worry about spelling until a child has finished phonics...usually 3rd grade. Until then spelling is covered with our phonics lessons. You'll need to work on spelling later, with something else.
fleece
She's in a really interesting stage where she can read pretty hard words (explosion, punishment), but can't spell the simplest. Drum is "brom". I can't do a weekly spelling program with her because I'm tutoring her once a week. I may just do an intensive review of vowel sounds. Any recommendations for that are appreciated. lulalu
No ETC really is not enough for spelling unless the child is a natural speller and only needs to spell the word once or twice for it to stick.
