Just finished the Wilson Intro training

Recommended Posts

I’m mostly still overwhelmed and decompressing, but I sort of dropped off of here for a while so I wanted to update.

My training class was pretty big, mostly PS teachers, some SLPs, but there two other moms (not teachers or any related field, just there for their kids) besides me.

There was A LOT of information over 3 days. According to Wilson after this training I can begin to teach 1:1, and I do feel like I could order the materials and get the hang of it. There are additional online materials available to me now that I’ve completed the intro.

(To be certified and charge money I need to do the level one training.)

Anyway, I really like the program from what I’ve seen. I like how it is laid out, but tbh, I don’t have any frame of reference for other programs.

DD started tutoring with a Wilson cert reading specialist and it’s going well. We will continue through the summer and reevaluate.

All in all I’m glad I did the training. I learned a ton. I’m happy to answer any questions if anyone is curious about anything!

That's awesome!!! I'll bet your mind was blown, lol. That's a lot to take in really fast!

So was it more formulaic than you expected? Was there anything that surprised you? Is it a system that is easily conducive to customization and harder cases? Or is that in the later training that you would get to that point?

I wouldn’t say it was more formulaic than I expected, but I was expecting it to be pretty formulaic. I think these programs need to be, it’s the nature of the beast.

I came away thinking it’s pretty customizable. You have to lesson plan every single lesson and there is a lot of flexibility within the structure to pick the words and readings.

I think the further training gets more into the nuances for sure, but from what I can tell, harder cases would just go slower.
